10 kids drink windshield-wiper fluid at day care

I hope those children are all right from this ............

As a PreSchool teacher myself. Sad to see people look at all daycare's as if they were horrible places to have their children. When in fact they are beneficial.

I have seen more cases of deaths, or accidents, in the care of family members, than I have seen in a child care center.

What ever parents are comfortable with. IN allowing where their child stay. Is their choice.

I just wanted to let you all know. That majority of deaths and injuries to children do not happen at centers. They happen at home or in the care of a relative.

I am seeing in this thread and in another thread that there are blanket statements being made about daycare centers or preschools.

I have put both of my kids in daycares and not once anything bad happened to them. I have never met a person who had serious harm happened to their child at a daycare in the years I have been a mom.

However, I know people whose children have been harmed by family members ...so of course, we dont go around saying family members are horrible and shouldnt watch our children and the same should be applied to daycares too.

I am just that this woman owned up to her mistakes instead of denying them.

When I bag merchandise at Wal-Mart at the register I ALWAYS bag the food separate from everything else. This prevents poisons from seeping into the food, and prevents the food from leaking out and damaging other merchandise.

Now that I think about it, it could be easy to confuse the two IF the cashier/bagger at the store bagged the Anti-Freeze with food items (a no-no) and in a rush to put the groceries up at the daycare, the anti-freeze was placed in the refrigerator and the kool-aid placed in the garage.

While at the store, ask that all the food items be bagged seperate from everything else, and always DOUBLE-CHECK what your'e putting up before you mistake it for food when it could be really poisonous.

Another thing manufacturers could do is make the anti-freeze an obscene ugly color that doesnt confuse it for a blue beverage and put some type of warning on the cap such as STOP: ANTIFREEZE NOT FOR CONSUMPTION! in black boldface letters on a yellow background. It could be enough to make one stop and think about what they're doing.

I know this sounds very much like the McDonald's incident that required a CAUTION: BEVERAGE MAY BE HOT warning on all coffee lids but we have to protect the stupid people from ourselves and prevent them from filing and winning lawsuits because of their stupidity.

i would agree with you but its good point!

The moral of this story is basically simple. READ THE LABEL!

That is why they're laws on labeling items. To allow people to know what the contents are in the containers.

Yes, everything has to have a label of the contents, and its Haz-Mat classification.

I agree that this could have been prevented by simply reading the label and paying attention, but evidently the label itself was confused for Kool-Aid.

While I was bagging at Wal-Mart last night, I bagged a large jug of antifreeze. Given the shape of the container, the design of the label, and the color of the liquid, yes if one did not have their glasses on or simply not paying attention could have hastily shoved this into the refrigerator.

I think consumers should write to the manufacturers of anti-freeze and ask them to redesign their labels so its very clear that its poison and possibly use a different container shape, one that's odd shaped.
