No it's the fact that they block any gun control legislation that would keep guns out of the hands of these people. When you block everything that is proposed you get what we now have and that is a school shooting a month by people who shouldn't have guns in the first place.

Change the laws so that if you use a gun in the commission of a crime you will get the death penalty and then actually kill them, it might get the sane ones to think twice about using a gun in the commission of a crime. Also make it harder to get a gun and keep people who aren't mentally stable from owning one in the first place.

Making it harder, isn't this preventable, eh? Its only a bit harder to get. Same with principle when it comes to illegal drugs. I have no problem getting illegal narcotics anytime, that is how I knew control isn't going to work UNLESS you want USA to turn into Communist or tyranny totalitarianism. In other word, if uncle sam took away all guns, if succesfully, what do you think Uncle sam and rich people think? They will definetly going ahead screw us knowing we can't fight back. That is why 2nd amendment exist for that very reason.
 
PLUS, if we take away guns from citizen, there will be more police happily keep shooting and kill and get away with it knowing nobody has the gun, think about it.

But if they're sane, or mentally stable, they don't commit the mass shootings, so the threat of a death penalty wouldn't have any influence on them.

If they are not sane or they are mentally unstable, then they won't fear the death penalty.

I disagree heavily with this... If you open the door for the state to just kill off people, especially when it cannot get the facts straight on horrific crimes, how will it ever manage something as "simple" a brandishing... That is a crime and it is by definition a crime with a weapon, so s/he should die right? We do not kill child rapist but it is okay to kill people using guns? That can go down hill really really fast...
We have enough laws on the books, yet hardly any are enforced... More laws will not change anything.
