Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that there seems to be much more focus on health, illness, and medical care now than in previous decades? There are more hospitals and clinics being built, more health "programs" available, more emphasis on fitness and exercise equipment, etc., yet Americans seem to be less healthy than previous generations.
Yes, prescription drugs are too expensive, and yet we seem to be taking more of them than ever before. It used to be just our grandparents took a few medications on a regular basis but now every family, including children, seems to be taking tons of pills every day.
We get more inoculations and vaccinations than any other period of history, and yet it seems more people miss days at work and school due to illness than any time past.
More people than ever are getting disability payments and Medicaid.
More people receive regular on-going mental health therapy.
More people have cancer.
More people are getting new organs, joints, and lenses via surgery.
How often did our ancestors need to go to the hospital?
Are we Americans just plain falling apart, or what?
