Totally not meant to start a war. Just some reflections.

Oh well, no I figured, but then they would just sign then, right? So they could try to learn both, if they can't develop speech, they just sign. Instead of going only for sign or only for speech, try both out and see what the child can handle in the long run?

Totally not meant to start a war. Just some reflections.

Stupid question- can't you "talk" ASL and English to a baby, deaf or no? So that they learn both? I mean, I was never formally taught anything, but one of my babysitters was Spanish and until I hit 2nd grade, I spoke such thick Spanglish that I needed to take ESL. Of course now, I don't speak a...

    ADHD or ADD

That's good, i'm glad it works for you. i don't consider my issues that debilitating, so I don't want to risk whatever function i have. How bad is the cost of your meds?

    ADHD or ADD

See, I was diagnosed with ADHD as well, and I was on ritalin until 6th grade. Even now, I'm pretty much the same as you- lightning fast thoughts, getting lost in a second without realizing it, etc. I find myself having a hard time retaining information, I get easily confused, telling me...

How would you phrase "at", as in "bad at" or "slow at"?

If I should meet someone who signs ASL and I try to say, "I'm learning sign, I'm bad at it" or even bad at anything, how would that be phrased n signing? I (VERB) BAD? I BAD (some sign for "at") (ACTON) you know? How would I phrase that in signing? Thank you!! :ty::ty:

How does syntax work in ASL signing?

This actually really does help. xD I guess I need to read farther, because I never realized there was a pattern. I wonder if SEE is easier than ASL... huh.

How does syntax work in ASL signing?

Again, I'm very new, but so far, the sign sentences I've learned are things like, "I N-A-M-E. I Learn-learn sign." stuff like that. Are there sign sentences that reflect English syntax, like, "I'm going to the movies" Rather than something like, "I go movie"? Am I right in assuming ASL more of a...

What is your opinion on the drinking age in USA?

I dunno. I think that the drinking age should be maybe 18 or 19, though the transition should be rough. Can't say i'd like to be there that day.

Is it very frustrating to try to sign with someone when you're fluent and they aren't

I mean, I'm only assuming, but because the hand movements and the body language is so specific that it seems that much more confusing when people use the wrong sign rather than when people use the wrong word or grammatical sequence in interlingual speech. I mean, i'm learning from a website...

    Hi there. I'm a newbie.

I hope I'd be welcome here. I'm hearing, and I don't actually know any Deaf people. However, I'm slowly picking up ASL on my own and will likely eventually take classes. No particular reason as of yet, just... why not? I figured I'd join here maybe to learn about Deaf culture and the etiquette...
