The new deaf generation....speaking and listening

It kind of reminds me of the times when I'm using the relay and I could tell that what the operator typed is not what the other person said. In another word, even hearing people don't always 100% understand one another and all.

Do we have a challenge ahead of us to avoid becoming Hearing?

Ooops. Then in that case, it's funny I asked. :)

Do we have a challenge ahead of us to avoid becoming Hearing?

Stickers? What are they? I know what stickers are. But I'm not sure how it's in relations to the CI. You mean to put the stickers on the CI or something?

    Second CI Activated

Another thing is that you'll probably be going for mappings more often in the beginning. Before eventually branching out as you wear the CI longer. For instance, when I first got my CI, I'd be going every 3 months or so. Now, it's closer to the 6+ months range. Although I do know of some that...

    Analog Hearing Aids

Yes, I did get some of that "what the hell is that?" especially from those that just met me. :)

    Analog Hearing Aids

Ha. Although I often get told "your hearing aid is whistling" by well meaning friends or relatives.

Speech/Accent in HOH Late Deafened/born deaf

An option would be to just tell them that you weren't born deaf and that you had lost your hearing when you got older.

    so much noise

Yes, there are little day occurrences that kind of reminds me that I'm glad to have some hearing for some of the time. Such as hearing the alarm go off, hearing the car beeping the horn behind me or even hearing a maintenance worker or stranger call me from a distance and so forth. Not...

    Analog Hearing Aids

The funny thing is that for some reason, I think I hear the feedback better when it's coming from a digital. Whereas when I was wearing the analog, I often had to be told by others that "your hearing aid is whistling".

Sorry to hear that. Hope the analog would help.

    I hate my ear doctor!!

I think it's also a question of that one shouldn't feel pressured that there's only one way to go.

    so much noise

That's why I sometime feel a little wary when I hear of a deaf person not even wearing hearing aids or getting any auditory input for quite some time. Cause the longer one goes without them, the more of a gap there will be to overcome and the more overwhelming it could be when one starts getting...

    Being deaf is

Ok. But I think this thread should be moved over to another section. Cause what does it have to do with "Hearing Aids & Cochlear Implants"?

    Second CI Activated

Welcome to the forum. I got implanted myself 3 years ago. Yes, audiologists tend to start off slow when one is first implanted. Especially if one had either no or minimal auditory input in that ear for some time. Were you wearing an hearing aid in that ear before the implantation? That...

Sooooo FRUSTRATING!!!! I hate my new hearing aid.

Sounds like you could also use a little air blower, that you could blow dry into your tube. And when you put back on the HA, you'll see that the sound usually comes back and all.

    I hate my ear doctor!!

I second Caroline and some of the other posters, get a "2nd opinion". And from an audiologist rather than an ear doctor. And you'll still probably get more benefit wearing an HA than not wearing it. IMHO.

Profoundly deaf - anyone like me, have CI?

To me, it's not so much louder, but crisper. And also hearing more sounds, including some that you weren't with just the HA's.

    Analog Hearing Aids

Is the implication there is that you're more likely to get feedback with an analog than a digital? Cause I have a digital and still occasionally get a feedback especially if the mold is old or the tube needs to be replaced.

Do we have a challenge ahead of us to avoid becoming Hearing?

In another word, those with a little better hearing may not know what is it like to originally not have better speech only to have it improved after it was worked on, at least probably not to the extent one with a profound would.

    Your experience with hearing aids

I'm another that often thought that "80db" fell within the severe range. And often could see the difference between those with a "80db" as opposed to those with a "95+" loss.
