    Suggested Hearing Aid Accessories gifts

Ear Gear would be good, if you think your mom would use it. a Dry & Store would be hugely useful. Even a big pack of batteries would make a good gift. Soundbytes has a 5-in-1 hearing aid tool kit that I've found extremely useful with my daughter. Would make a good stocking stuffer...

    A question about Deaf developement

I am hearing and I learned via the 'whole word' method. My daughter will learn this way as well, hopefully multiple languages.

    poll on education choices

We chose for our daughter. Right now she is in a D/HH early childhood program through our school district. Actually, today was to be her first day, since she turned 3 Saturday, but we got stuck with another snow day. We chose this option because it is the best available to us. We cannot...

Another CI failure story. No improvement in speech!

Honestly, unless you can convince this person to come here and post themselves and/or provide a link to an actual first person account, I have a very hard time believing posts like these. There is very little value in it without some verification. It's like "I know a guy who knows a guy whose...

Why is it hearing aids cost so much?

There's an app for that. :P

    Reason for Hearing Restoration

Will answer on behalf of my daughter... 1. Failed newborn screening. Formally diagnosed at 9 weeks old. Have not done any genetics to see why, but Waardenburg Syndrome is suspected due to eye color variations. 2. Bilateral Sensorineural. Severe (70dB) at diagnosis, progressed to...

The CI for children issue (My POV)

Glad your procedure went well. Good luck. Being the hearing parent of a deaf-born child, I have to say I am the polar opposite of this description. The moment they told me she'd failed her first hearing test at 3 days old, "Oh my god... FIX IT" wasn't even in my mind. My first thought was...

    Mothers' delivery the babies

Both my girls were c-section. The first had delivery complications making a c-section necessary. The second was a scheduled c. Baby 1 was 6 days overdue, 7lb, 11oz, 23" Baby 2 was 12 days early, 8lb, 4oz, 22"

    Cochlear implant surgery is Safe!!

I know this may not the perspective you're looking for, but it's what I've got. Though I am choosing not to implant my child, I would NEVER take it upon myself to discourage and/or sway another parent's/person's choice. I will give my opinion or experience if asked. (I hold this practice...

'Big Fat Black Lady' Angered by Gas Station Receipt

It would have been far more appropriate to describe the customer with other details. "lady, pink shirt, glasses" "man, red tie, beard"

The future? Fully implantable hearing aids??

I'm not at all interested for my daughter, but I found the participation criteria a bit... odd. It doesn't say directly so, but it seems they are excluding ASL users. :hmm:

    How to afford an HA

The Lions Club is a service organization dedicated to helping the blind and deaf. There is an application process for assistance but they generally do everything they can to help as much as they can. According to your profile, I think this is your local club. Odell Lions Club

    A question

I actually know of a family that implanted their child very early and insists that "She's not deaf. We fixed her ears".

    FDA-Shocking Results on CI Statically

Who knows... maybe, once she starts school in December, being in a new environment will spark something in her with all of the other kids around. Right now, we just need her to catch up language-wise, be it manual or verbal. Since she's less delayed manually, ASL it is.

    FDA-Shocking Results on CI Statically

My daughter has been wearing HAs since she was 4 months, in speech therapy since 5 months and has been doing auditory-verbal therapy since 6 months. She has been, and will continue to be, given every opportunity to speak other than CI. There's nothing that says she can't still speak. She's...

    FDA-Shocking Results on CI Statically

Exactly. I do not feel it is important for my daughter to speak a spoken language. As long as she is confidently fluent in her chosen method of communication (ASL) and literate in at least 1 written language (preferably more, but I won't get my hopes up yet), I will be beyond pleased.

    FDA-Shocking Results on CI Statically

Because, in the case of a CI, you are also taking away, destroying residual hearing. Many, many kids being implanted could and do benefit from HAs but are implanted anyway. I know of at least 2 non-profound infants who were implanted without even doing a HA trial. Why not develop what was...

    FDA-Shocking Results on CI Statically

I disagree. At the end of the day, when the processor comes off, the child is still deaf. Some form of visual language is absolutely necessary to communicate. However, exposing a child to a language is absolutely nothing like a CI. A language is not invasive and can be dropped and...

    FDA-Shocking Results on CI Statically

Being the hearing mother of a toddler born with a severe loss, I can tell you EVERY choice I have to make for her is not taken lightly. From the color of her ear molds to planning a future move to be closer to the state school for the Deaf. No choice I've made is easy. Not one choice has...

Have great HA but being pressured to get CI… very apprehensive

If audi continues to push, I would start looking for a new audi. In the end, they are your ears and it's your decision. If they can't honor your choices you should no longer honor them with your business.
