I don't think that you should have to worry about your opinion. You are very respectful.

    more interpreter issues...UGH!

My parents were hearing; I was deaf. Unless you've seen my previous posts (and already know), try and guess which route they took (hint: Mountain Man's first sentence).

Service dogs for CI users and deaf people

:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2: I imagined someone coming over to me and start petting my arm while ignoring Leah. :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2: I've had people come over and tell me that they know they are not supposed to pet a service dog and then they start PETTING Leah. I've also had people come...

Service dogs for CI users and deaf people

I was actually volunteering for A Forever Home Rescue in Fairfax County, Virginia. One weekend, they handed me Leah and I heard about her story and told to look after her, let people see her, and help answer people's questions about adopting. She had been found at a pound and she was pregnant...

Service dogs for CI users and deaf people

I realize hearing ear dog/hearing service dog/whatever you want to call them is not for everyone. What I like about having one is that I get to receive the same information that I would have gotten had I been hearing, but in a visual/touch way (she NEVER barks, only nudges and leads me to...

Service dogs for CI users and deaf people

While people tend to realize there are different levels of hearing loss (mild, moderate, severe, profound), I don't expect that everyone realize the effects that it has on some people. I expect I don't know everything about the effects of deafness on people. So here's my experience. I grew...

Yes, I can agree with and relate to that. :ty: for clarifying.

Hi, Posts from Hell. I like your avatar (thought it was hilarious). :laugh2: I've liked and appreciated a lot of your posts that I've read so far (although I haven't been here long). Since I haven't been here long, I haven't read all of CSign's posts, I don't know everything about her and her...

is it normal for deaf people to worry about this?

Yeah, count me in as one of the people who get self-conscious about speaking/breathing/eating too loud. Mostly I only get self conscious when my family tell me that I am being loud, but they mean well. They only want me to know so that I can adjust and not disturb people around me. I just hate...

    pain from sounds?

Nope. It seems every hearing aid I've had has done that. I have seen several different audis (since I've moved around in a couple states), but they didn't seem to understand.

I am sorry to hear you had to go through that. I cannot believe how unprofessional and rude you terp was being, you should not and do not have to put up with that (even as a minor). All you should have to worry about is normal kids stuff. I wish I could have been there for you in person. I...

    pain from sounds?

I have a heard a lot of annoying sounds, but was unable to locate the source of the sound or determine what was making it. The only annoying sounds that I have noticed ("ah, that's what's annoying me") has been when I wear my HAs. The noise of nailclippers drive me through the roof. I want to...

    i asked this elsewhere..

I will never get CIs. I would not get CIs before I lost all of my hearing, as the surgery destroys the natural hearing you have left and throws an electronic signal at your brain that it is not guaranteed to ever comprehend. I feel the same way as Shel90 about not getting CIs since being deaf...

Do you have memories of hearing?

I was born prematurely, which is common with twins, and I was born :deaf:. While they said I only had a mild to moderate hearing loss as a young child, I don't remember any sounds growing up before I entered school and was first given HAs.

    Confession Time :)

I can whistle, learned it by playing the flute. I stay in bed late (no I woke up at 7 AM today) on the weekends. I have also stayed up late playing video games until 8 AM in the morning (in college). I drool a little sometimes while sleeping. Like Shoshana, if I cant understand someone...

Grew up with Hearing Aids: Are they still right for me?

:ty: I've found ASL groups, but only a couple deaf people. I've been to a few ASL meetups over the last few weeks and I could count on one hand the number of deaf. The rest were hearing wanting to be interpreters and hearing learning sign for some other reason. I hope to find them soon.

    Deaf Values

I know when I tried to play with kids at school (a hearing school) there was almost non-stop communication between the other kids: about rules, correcting a kid doing something "wrong", asking another kid if so-and-so wanted to play, about what they watched or did last night, etc etc. That's how...
