True story. I care for my grandson daily while his parents work. Just this past week, my grandson tells me, "Granny, the water is running in the kitchen sink." It had been running for ten minutes or more. It happens.

Little kids are great that way. They just take it as it comes and work with it. Even the misunderstandings are different with kids. I wish adults could be more like kids.

You don't know do you? You don't know because you are hearing impaired. We don't know that. I'm unaided. Thunder and sirens are far out of my range. How many people, American citizens, are like me?

Huge, huge difference between HOH and Deaf. Double the difference between hearing and deaf. Mixed signals , misheard words. Expectations are are different,on both sides.

ASL. What is lost is irreplaceable.Will it ever,can it ever replace the spoken/understood word consistently? No. Hearing Aid technology is the only way to go.

I am HOH severe to profound. Yes. I would be delighted to be cured. All aspects of everyday life would be so different (and from my perspective, easy). Not going to happen though. Never going to happen.

Does this make you feel better? Does it help you in any way possible that I can't hear and understand the music that is playing? What do I miss most...music...wide and deep and personally moving. Music that touches your soul.

My grandson gets mad at me too. He says I'm not listening to him or I'm talking wrong (when I answer him incorrectly). He's three. It's a humbling situation.

I hear the ocean. Crashing waves...relaxing right? Except that is not what you should hear 24/7 if you're not at the sea shore. I want to hear what is real to me.

Does that mean I could "tune" in the sound of distant thunder and "tune" out the sound of a siren at the same time?

I do think vision and tactile senses are are more pronounced when hearing is impaired. I have,however,found that visual acuity does decreases with age. I swear I can't "hear" a thing without my glasses.

Transcripts. Not just captioned news but transcripts of major events. I myself have had to search (often to no avail) for transcripts of political speeches and events. It is frustrating and exclusionary.
