Name this breed! My new Puppy!

Hmm...that sorta look like Stardust. I have seen quite a few poms. Their noses are always small and short. Stardust is 8 pounds and a foot tall. Too small to be a full size border collie, but possible be one of the larger Poms. Hmm...we'll never know, unless if I do the DNA tests.

100db gain HA's, is this ever going to be possible?

You know, I learn something new everyday..I never even thought of that. I thought most of them would go inside the store to use the ATM. Thanks for clarifying!

Name this breed! My new Puppy!

True true...I was told that Russells tend to get hyper/excited at times. I rarely pay attention to dogs, so I'm probably jumping to conclusion, but I do not believe our dog is Jack Russell mix.

Name this breed! My new Puppy!

Jack Russell are very hyper, and Stardust is FAR from that. She whines, but never barked. She just likes to sit next to me and completely ignores the cats. She also has a rough coat that's similar to a Border Collie. I think Jacks mostly have short hair and smooth coat. A Pom?! Nah. She does...

Name this breed! My new Puppy!

Hello everyone, I posted here a month ago about Blackjack. After a couple days, my fiance asked if we could get a dog. We want to adopt more cats, but none of the shelters would allow us to adopt until 6 months has passed after Blackjack's passing due to FIP (which I think is BS, but we need to...

100db gain HA's, is this ever going to be possible?

just one more off topic post please?? I'm ALWAYS so impressed on how people can read braille. I would even go up to ATM's (why the hell do they have braille on a drive-thru ATM?!), or anything that has braille and just at least try...I can't even feel much of anything, just a mish mash of...

My middle-schooler is now a candidate for CI -HELP!

It sounds like the old advice, "If your friends jump off the bridge would you?". I would sit down with her and give her all the information that you can find. There's a lot of info regarding to surgery, recovery, activations and training on this forum. Even though you are the one that...

    CI Problems

:eek2: They gave you number 6?! Jeez, that is WAY too strong for me. Unless if you have very thick hair, you should consider getting a weaker one. If you have the magnet on strong like that, it could potential cause issues with the skin that's over the magnet underneath. The first month, it...

    Poor aided results above 500Hz

Hmm, I talked to my fiance, who is hearing, he says not that much for high frequencies, probably 1/4 of the environmental sounds is strictly high frequencies. Such as: birds, high notes in piano/flute/opera, crickets, mosiqutio ringtones (teens can hear this), computer fans, etc. There are...

    Poor aided results above 500Hz

I totally agree...I maxed out everything I could with my HAs. The environmental sounds weren't a problem, it was the speech that was the issue. It sounded so distorted. Imagine having someone covering their mouth and talking...I can hear their voice, but I cannot make a damn thing that they...

What are high frequency sounds like?

To be honest - there's no "one" way to describe it. Having the ability to hear high frequencies does have it's benifits as to hear crickets, birds, speech, etc, but there are some high pitch sounds that are just useless annoying noises. Imagine what you're hearing now PLUS all the extra...

100db gain HA's, is this ever going to be possible?

I don't think so..it's not "half" as she still has 16 electrodes left, she can still hear pretty well.

    CI Problems

:hmm: Since you were just activated, it is possible that the sounds that is "cut off" are the very high pitched sounds and your CI cannot detect it just yet. Since right now you have a very crude map, so there may be certain pitches that the CI cannot pick up yet. I remember that it would...

How bad must your own hearing be before you consider CI?

Funny that you asked...I actually thought one was good enough...but then I really felt so one sided, and I was reading blogs about bilaterals and stuff. So I said, "Screw it, i want the other one done ASAP. I found it was just so much easier because if I waited a whole year or two, I would...

Can hearing aids "gain" aided hearing down to 0db?

First Paragraph - The Audiogram that I showed you showed you the pre-CI loss. :-) A couple years before, I was able to detect slightly in the high pitches, and I didn't have any NR. It was obviously that my loss was getting worse to the point where I would only hear the low frequencies...that's...

100db gain HA's, is this ever going to be possible?

Yeah. I easily just took a picture off the web (just Google "audiogram" and go to images and find a blank one similar to mine), then I used a paint program and just added the dots, different colored dots for results. I haven't added anything since I was activated.

100db gain HA's, is this ever going to be possible?

I can. :-) Until I asked them to LOWER my damn map. As you can it was just a wee bit too much in the highs. :-) My Audiogram Pre and Post To answer DeafDude's question about what it sounds like...it's kind of like a shrill, but it's hard to explain if you haven't heard them before. ...FOR me...

Id like to learn more about CIs, have some ?s

Hmm - Honestly, to be able to ear the very highs is really annoying and it physically hurt. Imagine having a whistle or a flute playing the highest note in your ear every day...it hurts. To me it does. For other people, it's beautiful. I *could* bring up my map to be able to hear above 6k, but...

Can hearing aids "gain" aided hearing down to 0db?

Yes you can...through CI. :-) Most likely mild to moderate type of loss. HA can only be powerful enough gain a lot, but not in the higher frequencies. I have a loss of 105 in my left - through HA, I can hear all the lows - it becomes a "mild" loss (40db), but very little in the highs. My...

Id like to learn more about CIs, have some ?s

I found a website that gives the lowest frequency to highs that a hearing ear can hear..20Hz to 20,000Hz. I found that I can hear from 40Hz all the way to about 15,000Hz. So I have no idea why people have said that the CI cannot hear anything below 250Hz. Besides, something that low will be...
