Cochlear Implant Surgery: Risks and stuff...

Yeah - not every hospital does that. I think centers or ORs that is used specifically for CI implantation have the ability to test out the implant to full extent. I went to a regular hospital where my surgeon just sets up the OR. I had the NRT done later. I think they tested the electrodes in...

    ncff07 Come In Here Please

I think everybody that got Cochlear processors after 2006, got the Freedom Implant. :-) So no worries there. Honestly, it doesn't matter because the internal is pretty much the same for the last 20 years...they just changed it to a curling array with N24 CA. The Freedom Implant has some sort...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

You will. :-) It did sound a bit "horrible" at first and high pitchy. Everything got better after the first "real" map. The first time you're activated is really a crude map, nothing added to it. Just your good ole' basic map. It's just so you can get used to the extra sounds, used to...

Looks like I need to call my ENT

Honestly - different doctors have different ways of treating wounds and stuff. I had a bit of packing in my ear for a week then it was removed. I had to wear my bandage on for a week because I knew that i would be scratching my wound. I did not need to rub any antibacterial stuff because it was...

    Cochlear Celebration 2009

They also have ALDACon - which from what I heard, has a lot more AB users there. The next one is going to be in Nashville, Tenn.

    Ear fatigue

How is my situation different? I said that I had the same problem BEFORE I had the implants. It was just worse when I had hearing aids. Now with CI, it's not that bad, but I still get over stimulated with sounds because of the nerve cells. Plus - I still have residual hearing in both ears...

    Ear fatigue

:wave: I DO! I DO! All the time. :-) Basically I have severe hyperacusis at times. Some days everything is great. Other days I just want to yank my CIs off and be in silence. There are even days when I asked my interpreters or Roy if the person is loud or turn down the volume...

Left vs Right Brain & Cochlear Implants

All I can say that the writer of the story is SORELY lacking in knowledge of what CI does. People are still fine with just one implant...a lot of my friends that i know personally only has one implant and they're happy. I'm not because I feel so one-sided and I'm used to using two ears. So...

This girl in one of my classes...

I just need to correct you on this. Our brains are not implanted or exposed in any way. It does not take a lot of trauma to get our stuff mapped. It's just like going in an audiologist office and tweak some of the sounds. The first year and second year it takes a bit of mapping, but after a...

This girl in one of my classes...

Like I said in my previous post, it is IMPOSSIBLE for people to test out different CI brands. You have one shot. If you don't like it...too bad. You would have to go through surgery AGAIN if you decide to go to a different company. None of the companies are interchangeable. All three companies...

This girl in one of my classes...

I hate it when people are comparing one person to another. My biggest guess is that she didn't really have good map. It's impossible to switch to a new company without going through surgery again. Honestly, she should find another audiologist, get a new map, and maybe aural therapy will help...

    Talk about CATS! :D

I have two cats now. I used to have three, but my 10 month old Blackjack died from FIP. :-( The other two is: Mocha - a bitch (seriously), it's her way or else. She's a Tortie. She will be 10 in March...she only got a cold twice in her life, and never gained weight. Still the same svelte size...

    Fip -

Okay, now I'm slightly mad because you're taking over my thread about grieving of a lost pet and you're talking about diet. I would be more than happy if you just said, "i'm so sorry for your loss." Now you're telling information that you really don't know much about. FeLV is a VIRUS. It's no...
