I have often thought about adopting a deaf child. I am hearing, so I just wanted to get your opinions on it? I plan learning asl and would want my child to be an active part of the deaf communityjj. what are your thoughts?
I once heard this little girl ask a deaf woman how she learned to read and write. But in all fairness...it was a little kid asking the question, she didn't know any better. Adults ought to know better.
ABSOLUTELY! the worst kind of disability is the one that can be cured free of cost and without doctor visits, loss of cultural identity, etc...yet the disabled person chooses not to.
Maybe I should start a trend...Fat means you are culturally obese and fat means you are overweight but don't necessarily identify with the culture of "Fatness"...haha:)

You right, i'm sorry I should've used a better term. I simply meant to simulate the deficit of sound so that a hearing person can better understand where the deaf are coming from and why things like covering your mouth when talking, being shouted at, and inappropriate ways of getting a deaf...
I am just curious. Does something like that exist? I guess you could go with earplugs but that doesn't really make you "profoundly" deaf. Anybody know of something that does that?
I know Children of a Lesser God, and Mr. Holland's Opus, and one or two others. But anybody else got some names of movies with deaf people or about deaf culture?
