    Dad update

Thank you, Ladies. Kristina, thank you for your number. I'll use it, I promise. Right now, though, just know I'm OK. My Sister and her family is living with us for the time being, and that has proved to be a Godsend. It's cramped in here for sure, but, I can't IMAGINE going through...

    Dad update

Dad made it through the surgery. While the Dr was in there, though, he took a peek at Dad's liver and the cancer has advanced. His liver is nearly completely consumed by the cancer. I had prepared myself for Dad's death, so when I heard he had made it through, I was elated. The news regarding...

    Dad update

Partial gastrectomy set for tomorrow. They will need to remove at least 1/3 of Dad's stomach to deal with the fistula. They are considering him high risk and don't expect him to survive the procedure. His lung function has declined considerably in the last few weeks. If he survives the...

    Dad update

Extremely. But, it's probably the best thing to do. He won't heal unless they go in there and deal with the infection. Then, close up the fistulas. I don't know if chemo will be restarted, but, he'll be more comfortable, at least. REALLY want him home, though! I miss him! :(

    Dad update

The fistulas aren't healing, so the Dr has decided to take Dad to surgery in the next few days. No idea when he's coming home.

Holding "Grudges"...can you forgive or forget?

I'm a forgive but never forget person usually, but with my Dad's death approaching, I'm seriously re-thinking this. For now, let's say I'm on the fence leaning towards it's better to forgive and not hold any grudges or have regrets. Forgiving and forgetting are two entirely different things...

    Dad update

Things are still precarious. Dad is still in the hospital. Those holes in his abdomen turned out to be fistulas. Essentially, holes in his stomach that formed after the PEG was removed. He has been placed on clear liquids by mouth only, and is getting all of his actual nutrition and...

    Dad update

Talked to Dad tonight and there's problems with the wound site. It's not healing well. The integrity of his skin is bad and it's ulcerated. There's three big places that have broken down that they are worried about. Tests were ordered today to see exactly what is going on inside of his belly...

    Dad update

Dad's responding to the meds they have him on. Turns out, he has periotonitis caused by a fungal infection from the feeding tube. No idea when he will be released from the hospital, but not before the end of the weekend, at least. Dr wants to make sure the wound site is healing well before...

    Dad update

As I said, Fuzzy, I won't be updating unless there's reason to update. Unfortunately, things aren't great. Dad's back in the hospital with a wound infection around the feeding tube site. The tube was removed yesterday and he's undergoing antibiotic treatment. He'll be in the hospital for...

    Dad update

Things are getting more difficult. Dad is now suffering some side effects from the chemo; which is to be expected. To add to this, his feeding tube was placed incorrectly and the Dr wants to have it redone. However, Dad does NOT want to be readmitted to have a second placement. The Dr...

I'm not going to be updating every day. Not much more to say for right now. Just know we're OK.

    Stop SOPA

This will be a first, PowerOn, but I will agree with you here. I'm not crazy about the idea of boycotts, but I hate censorship even more. If you really wanna do something about SOPA and PIPA, write your Congressman and voice your opposition to the bills that are being drafted.

    Dad update

Thank you all! Just an update: He's HOME!!!! Came home on Saturday. He has decided to fight the cancer even with such a grim prognosis. The aim is NOT to cure the cancer (not curable now), but to shrink the tumor (s) and hopefully make him more comfortable. He is doing chemo ONLY, and it's...

FDA approved - Cord blood stem cells to treat nerve deafness in children

Probably very similiarly to a bone marrow transplant. The cells are harvested, grown, and then, infused into the recipient just like any other IV infusion would be. The process of infusion is probably quite simple. But, preparing for that infusion may NOT be. I didn't read KoKo's article, so...

    Dad update

That's probably true, Bott. The denial is definitely there, though. Hell, even I am still in a weird denial state regarding what is happening, so I can only imagine the level of denial Dad is in. Not only that, but he is on a lot of pain medication, so lucidity is relative. But, he made a...

    Dad update

Things are literally changing second by second. Dad has decided to give chemo a try. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, but he's lucid and can make decisions. So, for right now, he's being treated. His cancer cannot be cured; nor is the prognosis any different with treatment (life...
