Music Class: Did You Take In School?

I will say (though this is both not IDEA and at college level), my college, as an accommodation, apparently can substitute classes that would be utterly useless for specific disabilities and replace them with things that would fulfill somewhat similar requirements. Not sure if that's under ADA...

Another MUST READ for parents of dhh kids!

Yeah... I saw it more as a discouragement of inspiration porn, which can happen with anything that could be considered to be a disability. Aside, I saw some dumb posts in the comments that I couldn't reply to because HuffPost got weird and presents no alternatives for FB, which won't load on...

    Order of Sentences

You could theoretically break order or drop elements for some types of sentences (just as you could with English), but you generally want to stick to a specific order and syntax (just as you should with English). Not to mention you should master the correct order before really moving to anything...

For parents of children with aids/CI...help!

I'd be curious, too. I know some speech path classes are FREAKY speech/amplification oriented (at my college, Deaf Ed majors and some speech paths had to take a speech for the deaf class... one I didn't want to *utterly* despise but ultimately did). Her posts don't make any mention of rejecting...

    Sign-to-English translation.

I feel like I've seen it before (I think I know what it means, ASL-wise)... but I also have no idea of an English word for it (heck, I don't even know where I've even learned it from, as it wasn't taught in class and my out-of-class sign environments have all been educational settings...

    Sign-to-English translation.

Could you provide a few examples?

Man has cockroach pulled from ear

I had what we're fairly sure was a brown recluse land on my face in my dad house as a child. My eyes were closed, and I could feel it. My dad saw it when I started screaming, and he got it off my face and flushed it down the toilet.

    Sign for "Vegan"

My thoughts on on why they joined at all, really. Seems all they are/were here to do is argue about peoples' diets and a joke they REALLY didn't get.

How long did it take you to be fluent in ASL?

I started learning ASL seven-ish years ago (but I've only actually been able to learn in classes and interact with the Deaf community and such for three of those, most heavily last year when I did a residential practicum at a Deaf school). Even though I'd say I'm fairly proficient, I definitely...

The CC is coming all scrambled up

I personally have always hated phone communication with someone I don't know... even through answering machine. :P I'm the "agressive email" type.

The CC is coming all scrambled up

My dad said (as I thought it was) that CC problem fixing is the responsibility of the TV station... unless it's a problem with the cable company. Basically, my dad said it's something that he (he's an engineer) could fix until (and sometimes including) transmission to cable/satellite...

The CC is coming all scrambled up

Probably the TV station first (though if it's right with them, it may then be Comcast's responsibility... my dad works for a TV station and might know but I can't ask him now). Ion may want your DOB just to confirm you're over 13?

    How do you sign...

I dunno how much clout I have, but I'd sign "not" or "no" (likely "no") rather emphatically.

    Question about CODAs

No. My mom is deaf, but she's not culturally Deaf. I was wondering if I counted as a CODA or not. :P

    Question about CODAs

Do your parents have to be culturally Deaf to "count" as a CODA? (I feel like this is a dumb question, and I feel like I didn't even phrase it right.)

    ASL at Deaf Universities

I second this. I'm hearing, and my deaf ed major has a one year immersive residential practicum at a deaf school (where I am right now). Outside of our rooms, we're required to sign, and I've really gotten much better at ASL since I started it! Also, Undergraduate Admissions, New Signers...

    How do you sign...

Can anybody tell me what a sign is from a description? It's like the sign for "STAR", but with palms facing yourself and "I" handshapes.

    Talk about AUDIST!

I wanted to bump this because I just realized today that I know this woman. She's doing graduate school at my school, and today, during her graduate presentation in my Deaf History class, she told her story in detail. It was even more serious/...infuriating(?) to hear from her directly. Luckily...

I'm trying to gloss this song. ASL users, am I doing this right?

I personally have attempted to sign songs, but never on camera (well, okay, once in the very suckish beginning), and I'd never put one on the net where someone could see it until I could even hold a candle to some of the fluent and/or native signers I've seen. I found that attempting to learn...

Not sure where I should have posted this...

Does anyone know where I can find some good info on William Willard? I can't find much information on him, and I'm doing a project about him for one of my classes this year. I've already checked out a VHS from ISD's library, but I can't find much more information on him. Does anyone know...
