Can Hard of hearing people get a CI?

It isn't the surgeons skills that say how much residual hearing you will loose, it depends on the array that is used, as well as your physiology. If they are able to go through the rear window or not. It also depends on if you have much residual hearing to begin with.

    CI Surgery approved today

my audi thankfully knows some sign, she isn't fluent, but she can sign some. When I went in for my CI eval, and all appointments up to activation, they provided an interpreter for me. After, they wanted to see how much I was understanding with just the CI, when I'm not understanding, my audi...

they may want to have the information for the future, or they may actually feel you are right on the edge. a CT scan only takes a few minutes. nervous

Depends on the student and their attiude. When you show you want to learn the language and the culture we are more accepting then when you just show up because its required of class... it also depends on how much you try, and how often you show up... if you keep coming, even when it isn't...

    how is it legal?

This is a big movie theatre, which is close to my house, I went up and asked if they ever did any OC or even RW captioned movies (we got free passes to AMC for Christmas) and they flat out told me no. They said though they do have the films... they do not show them... I just don't understand how...

    Deaf Parents of Deaf kids

its not important to have perfect speech... though too many parents think it is... I went through hell for my speech skills too (which aren't perfect)... does that mean that I chose it? NO... my parents chose it for me... they chose the oral road for me... and now I am choosing my own, and am...

    Deaf Parents of Deaf kids

No I would not get my children CI's if they happen to be deaf. I want my kids to grow up proud of who they are, deaf or hearing. My children will be exposed to sign from the day they are born, will grow up in Deaf Culture, will understand they are perfect just the way they are. If my children...

    how is it legal?

how is it legal that movie theaters have movies that are OC, but don't show them, don't offer any sort of captioning what so ever, and state flat out that they won't do it? How is this legal within the ADA? that just doesn't make any sense to me...

How to Get Terp in School?

you have to have a documented reason for a terp, meaning substancial hearing loss, and you would have to have an IEP meeting or a 504 plan. if you do not have a documented hearing loss, it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to get a terp.

    My Cochlear Implant

Cheetah, I also am Deaf, and I am not disabled either... It would be very interesting to see if there is a correlation between those of us who use sign as our primary mode of communication, and those who are oral in relation to the way society views disability, as well as how the person...

    My Two Cents on CI's

this is why I would not get a CI.. I've spent so much time trying to be hearing for other people... I've spent so much time trying to accomodate other people, trying to be their idea of perfect instead of mine, instead of being who I am. I still wear my HA's for other people... not for myself...
