argument with my ignorant nursing instructor!

actually, the more angry i got, i started signing a little while i was talking. haha.. i dont know if anyone noticed.. i think the Deaf spirit came over me. LOL. i was mostly just signing "deaf people"... i really hope that at least once during my clinical time in school that i have a chance...

argument with my ignorant nursing instructor!

yeah i am in clinical, and it is pass fail for us too.. ive learned my lesson on staying on instructors good side (i failed clinical once before without putting any patients in danger or doing anything really that warranted a failure.. but thats a whole new conversation.. lol) this teacher is...

argument with my ignorant nursing instructor!

so the other day we were having a lecture on cultural sensitivity in regards to nursing. she asked us to name some specific cultures we may encounter in the workplace. some people said "Hispanic", "African American", etc.. i said "Deaf!", and then my teacher looked at me like i was retarded and...

    Deaf people and Christianity

i sort of disagree.. i was raised catholic, but i am very opposed to many catholic views.. i feel that people who grow up in overly religious households will many times inevitably rebel against what they were raised with.. i know very few people whose parents are NOT Christian, yet i have very...

    Deaf people and Christianity

thats interesting.. i haven't come across that, i know ASL is used often to communicate with autistic children/people who have trouble communication orally. but i dont know that i have ever met a deaf autistic person. but yeah i see what everyones saying about churches being a gathering place...

    Deaf people and Christianity

:hmm: sorry to hear that. i suppose they could get monitors hooked up to some kind of keyboard and have someone transcribe captions to what he is saying, but now i am seeing why they cant afford it, that would probably be expensive. good luck!

    Deaf people and Christianity

thats a shame there isnt a church with services for you.. there are at least 3 churches that i know of in my area that either have an entire Deaf congregation or at least someone signing the sermons for them.. I think two are Lutheran and i dont know what the other one is actually, but its some...

    Deaf people and Christianity

I hope no one takes offense to this  but, why are so many Deaf people Christians? I know a lot of hearing people are too, but every single Deaf person I have met in real life is a Christian, while a majority of my hearing friends are not.. not that i have a bunch of atheist friends or...

    Interpreter Requirements

I think I remember reading on here, that next year they require terps to have a bachelors degree in order to be certified, but the BS doesnt have to be in ASL/Interpreting/Deaf studies. Does anyone know if this is correct? I should have my BS in nursing in 2013, so can i get a certificate on top...

Is it stupid of me to go to a deaf meet with only limited ASL?

i agree. i have seen other people from ASL class go and just sit in the corner, not interacting at all, and then wonder why no one is coming up to THEM. They see that I am friendly with some people and ask me to introduce them, which is fine, but theyll just say "Hello. My name is ___" then...

Is it stupid of me to go to a deaf meet with only limited ASL?

thick skinned? really? ive always been welcomed, from the first DPHH i went to where i could barely say anything in ASL besides my name and wheres the bathroom. lol i went by myself the first time and the only person i knew was my ASL teacher. i left with like 3 phone numbers! this month will be...

    Learning to sign 1 handed

hearing people teach sign? that sounds like a disaster. :giggle: but really i think having a Deaf instructor does make it so much easier to learn, because she teaches only in sign and you are forced to understand or you are totally lost the whole class.

    Evaluate Please

ASL music videos are kind of weird to me.. do you ever watch them with the sound off? it can be kind of silly. lol. but your ASL looks really good actually--not that i have any credentials to be judging anyones signing. you seemed to have a little more expression in the Christmas one than in the...
