    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Hello NHDeafSpouse, I'm originally from NH so your name caught my attention. Then I read your post - I am a Meniere's victim and have lost a lot of hearing due to it. There IS a forum for Meniere's at: MENIERES.ORG -- Coping support site for Meniere's Disease. You are not alone! I've...

    For you latenened-deafened/hoh people...

I am one of the members on here with Meniere's. I had violent vertigo attacks with my left ear. I MAY be going bi-lateral but have not been having vertigo...just dizziness. I go to see my neurotologist today. (that's a specialized ENT with extra training.) Feel free to PM me. I will be...

    deaf scams

I get a lot of guys who "just happened" to see my profile and want to get to know me better. Interestingly, most of them are worded exactly the same. I just report them as spam. I figure they soon would want to come visit and need money, or some such idiotic scam. I'm not ugly - but I am...

    SSDI thoughts??

I know many Starbucks have Deaf Chats and I think I saw one for Tampa. I go to the ones I can in Clermont and Orlando as I'm losing more and more hearing. I've found nothing but kindness and a willingness to help as long as I am trying on my end as well. Also, WaveDancer just moved to the...

    Asperger Syndrome--let's discuss

I know Mathew Gray Gubler on Criminal Minds portrays Dr. Spencer Reid as though he has Aspberger's. It's never totally mentioned. (he's the genius profiler on the show).

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

It IS overwhelming. I'm only dealing with one ear deafness, but it's enough to really turn my world around. To go through both must be even worse. I haven't even discussed aids yet with my ENT or Neurotologist as I couldn't afford them. (However I have applied for SSI and SSDI) I know...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I'm another on here that has Meniere's and I MAY be going bi-lateral. I just had a VNS about a month ago. That operation is supposed to help preserve hearing, but somehow I seem to have gone deaf in that ear anyway. I don't think it was from the surgery - but rather that I continue to have...

    Kindle vs. Nook

I have a Kindle and LOVE it! No fees except books, and there are many free books out there too. I've missed reading - I had a VNS about a month ago and still have bouts of double vision. Hopefully, that will clear up soon and I can get back to reading. I find I actually prefer my Kindle...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Can you find out if there is a Deaf chat at a Starbucks near you? I know many groups have been holding them there all over the country. Deaf Chat Coffee | A deaf social lifestyle

    Senstivity to Sounds

I have Meniere's disease and at times loud sounds bothers me greatly. I think it's the fluid build-up in the ear for me. Known as hyperacusis.

How many have had bad dreams?

I have bad dreams just about every night now, but I'm pretty sure it's my medications. Although sometimes I wish I could just download them - they'd make great books!

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I don't have hearing aids, but I do have a high number of vertigo episodes. I go for my first dex injection tomorrow. I hope it's not too painful and even if it is - it will be worth it IF it works...even a little. I'd encourage you to get to that ENT about treating it!

    Dizziness

If this persists, you need to see a neurotologist (notice the OTO in there). Since you live in Jacksonville, I think the Jackson Hearing & Balance Center might have one. This is a special type of doctor that has studied further than an ENT.

    Are you afraid of needles

I HATE needles. I used to lie awake the night before if I knew I had to have a shot or get a blood test. Weird thing is - like many - I have a few tattoos. Now I'm freaking as the medicine isn't working for my Meniere's and they want to do shots IN my ear!!!! :eek3:

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I have Meniere's and my hearing has decreased. However, not all people with Meniere's lose all their hearing, but most tend to lose some. Serendipity is correct, it generally fluctuates making it hard to accurately measure true hearing loss levels.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

How are you doing? Did you get to see a neurotologist yet? I did get diagnosed by three doctors as having Meniere's. So far, nothing is working. What have they given you?
