I was given a meningitis shot 8 years ago before being Implanted. Presumed it was "standard procedure" as the "risk" of "getting meningitis" was known for a number of years..

As I recall, I never had "ringing in the ears" prior to becoming bilateral DEAF- Foruntely still the case.=today.

deafcanuck: As for "gadgets" your audi should explained exactly the use for you. aside: after my operation- 8 years ago I went home the next morning. I was operated on at 3 pm in the afternoon. I don't recall much "pain" at all. I was allowed to rresume swimming 2 weeks after the operation...

Odd- no one mentioned that a Deaf person walking should pay attention to traffic.

As I understand the matter: deafness is 105db-hear nothing. Thus the inexact converting to percentage. aside: that is exactly where I was way back in December 2006 when I became bilateral DEAF=loss 105 db..-both ears. Most people can get an "rough idea" when db is converted to percentage...

At the present time-still speak to "hearies" as long as my Cochlear Implant is on. I am not "voice off" nor any intention of so acting. aside: will cross over 8 years since being implanted. Still bilateral DEAF.
