    Deafhood

Up to a point. It's also a question of that different deaf people will have different needs or may handle different situations differently and so forth.

How are you feeling with your CI so far?

That's okay. Many CI users currently only have it on one side. Best of luck with your evaluation!

How are you feeling with your CI so far?

Yep. There were times when I heard it, but it took a moment or two before it sunk in and you're thinking "Oh I heard that!". :)

    Speak 'N Read Technology

Is it something that can be used at a lecture or something? You know when someone is giving a speech or presentation at a big room setting (i.e. auditorium)? And where you may not have a good view of the speaker and so forth?

How are you feeling with your CI so far?

I've gotten some "your speech is better" or "has improved" lately. I don't go around asking others "How's my speech?". Others just usually tell me that. Want to know something interesting? I've also been told by some of the late deafened that even they've been told that their speech has...

    Deaf for AG Bell

Yeah but it seems almost a little paradoxical of the op to the make the following statement: So koko does have a point when he says that some may be reluctant to come right out and say it knowing the possible hostile treatment they could get as a result. Sometime you have to see beyond...

Listening And Hearing, Not The Same For Children With CI

And I really appreciate all the things my parents, especially my mother did for me! :)

    Giving Voice To Deaf Children

I agree. I find that hard to believe myself "regardless of what background" the deaf child may be from or is immersed in. I'd like to think that I certainly learned more than at a "one word at a month" pace. Cause by the time I was 3 years old, I was already placed at a nursery school.

    Activation Day...

FYI, you could also take up some audio verbal therapy lessons to try to improve your hearing or listening skills. For instance, you could have some practice sessions communicating on the phone with a therapist or something.

    Allergies? Fluid in your Ear?

Sorry to hear about it. But like Botts said, sometime the best way to deal with an illness or dilemma is to "not think about it too much" and go on about your daily business and hope for the best. And also hope you feel better soon!

    Cochlear Implant Evaluation Procedure?

Did you have better hearing when you were younger? Is your loss progressive? Some sources say it does, some say it doesn't. And some also say it could but it's becoming less common these days and so forth. I decided to get implanted in my worse ear. The one I was getting very minimal...

What are some of the disadvantages of being deaf?

You brought up an interesting point. Sometime it's also a question of sometime your priority changes when you get older. When I was younger I was going through an "immature but growing up" phase whereas I was going to bars, shooting pool with a bunch of guys and being interested in girls...

Listening And Hearing, Not The Same For Children With CI

My mother didn't know signs. But she had the sense to be expressive, using some body gestures to go along with articulating and mouthing the words. It just came to her naturally. And we clicked, I understood every word she said, even from across a room with a noisy background or something.

Why everyone have to hate people with CI?

Like you, I also learned to speak and all that with just the hearing aids. However, your having a severe hearing loss when you were younger probably helped. As opposed to those with a "100+ DB" profound hearing loss, it becomes harder for them. One way or another, I still say kudos to you on...

Baby born deaf will get 'bionic ears' that could help him hear and talk

Keep in mind some people may have dyslexia regardless of what hearing they have or background they're from. I know a few myself.
