    Activation Day...

Some of those noises can also be adjusted in future mappings. You can make a note of them to the audiologist saying "So and so sound a little loud" and so forth.

    What about used hearing aids??

A good question is that if an used hearing aid is purchased through eBay, how would the buyer know if the aid they're purchasing are of good quality?

    The "now I hear you-now I don't" game: ???

I could see sometime having "selective" hearing, depending on the mood or state you're in, the person you're talking to, the familiarity or relevancy of the topic, the acoustics of the room or environment, etc. However, generally speaking it shouldn't affect the tests too much, especially if...

    Giving up on hearing aids

Yes, a prelingual deaf could still have some auditory memory even with just an hearing aid. It's just that they usually didn't hear as well as their hearing counterparts, particularly some of the speech sounds.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

The HLAA, Hearing Loss Association of America is another good organization for the deaf, hard-of-hearing and late deafened. Although I do not know what's their equivalance in some of the other countries, including in the UK? Does anyone know?

    if someone could help me

Hi, First welcome to the forum! As for the noise your daughter hears at bed, could it be simply a case of that she has a little hearing without the hearing aid and hears the noise others, including those that might still be awake are making? Like for instance if she goes to bed before her...

Can a person be profoundly deaf with residual hearing?

When you talk about having residual hearing, are you talking about actually having a little hearing even without the hearing aid? Cause I do have some hearing in the ear I wear an hearing aid with but pretty much cannot hear anything without it.

How are you feeling with your CI so far?

I remember reading one of the authors who wrote about her experiences with the CI saying "I didn’t realize how deaf I was till I got the CI..." or something to that sort. And recalled thinking "Oh c'mon, I could hear many things with my hearing aid...". And could also at times communicate...

Profoundly deaf - anyone like me, have CI?

Yes, it does also kind of sound like my situation. And there were times that it also appears that I'm also lipreading better. For instance, like in the morning when I have the TV on without my CI and I'm lipreading some of the close-up speakers pretty good. I think a factor is that I now have a...

    The "Mainstreaming" Experience: "Isolated cases"?

Sure, I understand that mainstreaming isn't for all deaf people. And that's why I keep saying that some of the schools for the deaf should remain open for those that needs or wants it. I know you meant well but I wouldn't call myself a superstar. Sure, I may have been born with some innate...

How are you feeling with your CI so far?

Sure, it's normal to feel a little nervous. I also did prior to mine. Feel free to come back in here and let others know as you move higher up on the list for help and support from others. There are also probably CI support groups you could go to in your area so you won't go on about the journey...

How are you feeling with your CI so far?

I've also been finding it easier to approach strangers, like the store clerks at the store, and ask for help. Whereas I sometime used to be a little more timid in a "uhm... could you..." sense. And now come right out and say "I'm looking for..." more often these days.
