Is it worth to be "oral"?

Nice exaggerations, tho', but people still do realize their limitations when it comes to access. There is no automatic privileges when it comes to the hearing world. Each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to what we can do and what we're capable of.

Is it worth to be "oral"?

Sound like it supposedly happened 40, 50 or 60 years ago, though no time line was given. Teachers back then made all kinds of medical recommendations. Sorry, those examples do not work. I'm talking about relatively current period when kids with mild hearing loss were misdiagnosed (by medical...

Is it worth to be "oral"?

Nothing in the links talk specifically about people with MILD hearing loss who were misdiagnosed as mentally retarded. I am talking about current examples and not something that had happened 20, 50 or 80 years ago whereby the given examples were those who were deaf and required sign language to...

Is it worth to be "oral"?

There is a difference having the ability to interact and communicate while acknowleging your hearing loss to yourself and to your hearing peers, friends and families who are aware and understand your limitations. They will accomodate and adjust because *YOU* make sure they understand that versus...

What's a good show to watch?

Gold Rush 4 (Discovery Channel) is my favorite show. Nothing more American than to see some guys out of Sandy, Oregon to try and strike it rich in Alaska...and in South America. The show is in its 4th season.

    What's your dream musical instrument?

Besides the Estonia piano, my other dream musical instrument, still a piano, which would be more fathomable to obtain (and easier to fit in my house) and that would be an antique, refurbished player piano plus a stock full of old piano rolls.

Is it worth to be "oral"?

I've already reviewed his post on that one before I posted my comment and were aware of it. He came out of lurk-mode to address a questionable post. I wonder how many past lurkers did the same that got them to join AD?

He has also responded in other threads. But to "pick on one member" vs joining so one can offer an input to a questionable comment and engage in with a poster seems more reasonable. I'm sure people have come out of lurk-mode and decided to chime in because of some particular posts or threads...

Is it worth to be "oral"?

What you have showed is that you understand that the range of speaking ability among deaf and HH people go from just having intelligibile speech enough so for people to understand even with a heavy deaf accent to people who speak you wouldnt even suspect the person was born with a hearing loss...

Is it worth to be "oral"?

All I need is one example to show the gross over-generalization regarding the so-called "shadow of a spoken language" as false. That example would be Vinton Cerf, the father of the internet. Vinton Cerf was born with a hearing loss and wears hearing aids in both ears. He has absolutely no...

Is it worth to be "oral"?

I also played the violin in the beginning but stopped after a year. I just wished I didn't stop because I can't bring a piano everywhere with me when I feel the need to play some music.
