    Taking ASL class

Yes, in theory, but you would get much more benefit from structured instruction along with interaction with other signers. Learning sign language on your own is possible but extremely difficult. Also, I would recommend Lifeprint.com over any app you might find.

    What would you think if....

Frankly, if that's what they're telling you then I recommend you find a new church, mainly because that answer is theologically appalling (seriously, he's using "the devil made me do it" as an excuse?). Not to mention it's a BS answer anyway because I doubt they would have the same misgivings...

    BSL and ASL interpreter?

Just to add some more detail, Certified Deaf Interpreters are usually highly skilled at communicating through gestures, and their specialty is interpreting for deaf individuals who have low-language skills or are unfamiliar with ASL.

I can guarantee that the "free training" will cost you.

We have many advantages of being deaf

I would say they can be equally beautiful, but I suppose it depends on who's doing the talking. :D

    BSL and ASL interpreter?

I personally don't know any sign language interpreters who know BSL, and I've never heard of any that know it. It's not something that would be taught in any of our interpreter training programs, and there's no testing for it. I think it would be very tough to find somebody who could interpret...

    Using ASL Unexpectedly

It has been my experience that most Deaf people are thrilled to find a hearing person who has taken the time to learn their language and are very tolerant as we stumble our way through a conversation. I suppose, too, that it's cathartic to see a hearing person struggling to communicate for a...

    Using ASL Unexpectedly

She may have been using it to emphasize that she wanted to know where you lived now, but that's just a guess. It's also possible that she simply used one sign when she intended another, a "slip of the tongue" as we hearing people would call it.

    Signing the letter Y

Physical therapist is probably your best option. I don't know any sign language exercises beyond simply loosening your wrists and fingers up before signing.

    sound and fury update

For the record, there's no such thing as "legally deaf".

    NIC/RID Written Test

What's interesting is that among international interpreters, the RID exam is actually considered "easy"! In Canada, for instance, you practically have to have a doctorate in order to become certified.

Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray

*sigh* And here I thought I had finally found a place on the internet that could calmly discuss Star Wars without bitching about the changes.

Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray

To be specific, HDMI doesn't support traditional closed captioning which is embedded in the NTSC/PAL video signal (an unfortunate oversight on the part of whoever designed the HDMI and Blu Ray standard), but many DVD and Blu Ray discs do offer subtitles which are generated by the DVD player...

    NIC/RID Written Test

The RID test is pretty brutal from what I understand. I plan on taking the written portion some time in 2012.

You're still missing the point, but I'm through trying to explain it.

    more interpreter issues...UGH!

It's like this: "I got ripped off because of that store's shady business practices." "But there are consumer protection laws to prevent that sort of thing." "There are, but I still got ripped off."

    more interpreter issues...UGH!

The short version is that CSign took unwarranted offense at my comments.
