Hi deaf dude First CI can be very a great tool for learning oral language but it is very personal decision. It is not for everyone. A CI is a very personal choice. As I said it can be when used correctly a valuable tool. My son has had his CI for 13 years and it has been amazing for him...

FDA sues Advanced Bionics Cochlear Implant maker for 2.2 million in fines for manufac

I agree each company has different features. It was a shame that AB model had a defect in it. And they say they have now fixed. There was no physical harm to people who received the defected AB model, they just had the major issue of having to have surgery again to replace the internal parts...

Hi I agree with you completely. Both of my children are deaf and they speak normally. They do have some trouble hearing in a room where there is a lot of background noise but other then that if you are listening very closely to them you might think they have the slight accent. People just do...

Peer Relationships of Children With Cochlear Implants

Hi Jenny, I am going answer your questions based only on what I have told my children. Since my children were about 12 or 13, I have told them that they are old enough to make these sort of decisions on their own. I have told them that if they want they can take off their implant and stop...

The cochlear implant will still be good you just have to go back to the implant center to get remapped. Now a days newly implanted children get 2 processors when they first get their implant so that they always have a good one at home for a back up.

Cochlear implant recipients experience improvement in quality of life

While I am think saying that all deaf should go for AVT. What is so wonderful about AVT is that 6 of its prinicpals involve the family. If the family believes in an approach then they are going work harder at it and make it a way of life.
