    CI question

My BTE is a little bigger than the one I had for my hearing aid but feels lighter in terms of weight. So I don't really feel it more than with my HA. One thing I have to say is that it definitely doesn't stay on the head as well as a hearing aid. I've dropped my CI several times now and...

    Hearing aids for profound losses

Even with normally hearing people there is no such thing as 100% hearing. They have a range of hearing that differs from person to person. Some people have very sensitive hearing and others not but both are normally hearing. I agree it's popular because people can readily understand...

I need to buy a new headpiece for CI.

Or perhaps contact the manufacturer to see if they have any second hand, reconditioned headpieces they can sell you at a lower cost?

    CI question

I was offered one. Apparently, some CI users who previously had hearing aids find it discomforting not to have ear molds anymore and like to have one anyway to "hold it on" better. The ear mold on a CI doesn't actually do anything. I tried it but decided I didn't need it. One of the pluses...

    CI question

As a mother, I go down plastic slides all the time. My 5 year old daughter regularly bounces on the trampoline and I can see her hair stand up with all the static. The key is to make sure the static does not directly touch the processor itself and you can discharge it by touching a piece of...

    Decorating BTE's

That looks great! :) It would be a good way of being able to immediately see which BTE is for the left ear and for the right ear.

    CI question

Hi Boult, Thanks for adding the important bit of detail I left out about it being housed in titanium and silicon case. I would not want people visualising something like this attached to their skull.... The internal Cochlear one looks pretty similar to the AB implant you posted...

    CI question

Hi Dreamchaser, Go to this link US FDA/CDRH: Cochlear Implants and click on the "view movie" on the lower left hand side of the page. It is an excellent explanation of where the various parts of the CI go. The internal part of the CI is effectively a small circuit board that lies...

    Implanted but anti-CI?

Welcome back! I agree with you. Even though a small child may not understand the long reaching implications of a decision it can help a lot if they feel involved. I remember Lilysdad (who no longer posts on AD) discussing with his two year old daughter if she wanted to go bilateral and she...

    Implanted but anti-CI?

From memory in the past on this forum: http://www.alldeaf.com/hearing-aids-cochlear-implants/38326-i-am-mad-i-have-ci-sigh.html I think just like with hearing aids there are going to be people who don't want to wear a CI when they get to a certain stage. Many others however find their CI...

    My time has come!

Apparently, the sound of the beep can be changed too. Perhaps you can ask for a higher frequency beep as that is more noticeable?

You might be interested in this similar discussion that we had not long ago... http://www.alldeaf.com/hearing-aids-cochlear-implants/51030-different-manufacturers-each-ci.html All the best. I was very happy with my bilateral results :)

    My time has come!

I didn't get the beeps for a few months after I was first activated and it turned out that my audie had forgotten to customize it so that I could hear the beeps. I find them extremely useful for identifying which program I have.

I Have A Question For People Who Wear Hearing Aids.

Well, no one with a CI disagrees with that. :dunno: I'm a CI wearer and I can assure you that you can take it off just like you can with a hearing aid :) I love the silence at nights and am not anxious to listen to my husband snoring :giggle: I also have a friend who never heard sounds...
