Do you think in sign or sound? Has that changed?

That's pretty interesting and cool. I've heard of people thinking in pictures before so I probably should have thought about that. I don't often think in pictures/see pictures in my mind. Do you guys also think like a movie real?

    Getting Used to HAs

Doing a bit better with the clock and have heard some new noises that I haven't yet identified - perhaps some kind of generator. I think my wife is getting sick of hearing my updates, lol.

What are you doing right now?

Hunting around for my hearing aid cleaning set and waiting for my wife to get here... haven't seen her in a while!

    Looking for BSL buddy!

Unfortunately I've just moved out of London. :( I could travel back for a little bit but then I'm moving to Oxford. That's pretty rude of them! Thanks for your advice anyway.

    Looking for BSL buddy!

Hi, I used to be fluent in Sign Supported English, or at least as fluent as my vocabulary was at the time, once I left primary school I guess it dwindled behind. I took BSL level one at 10/11 and used to be able to use BSL grammar even if it wasn't my default. When I move I'm hoping to join a...

    Communication

I have some Facebook friends who message and status in BSL. I used to read it off just fine but now it sometimes takes me a moment or two. Whoops. I think it's because I used to write things in BSL word order to get the hang of it.

For ORALISTS: Do people ever take you seriously?

I'd say I'm an oralist. I learnt sign language and was so happy when I could understand my lessons without headaches, etc. Ever since I left primary school (age 11) I've been almost entirely oral. Audiologists think I've been HoH since birth but say I have almost unheard of speech without...

Do you think in sign or sound? Has that changed?

I'm interested in whether those who learnt sign later started thinking/dreaming in sign and whether those who learnt to orally communicate later began to think in sound. I've been wondering how other people's experiences of this have been; I was brought up orally but later became fluent Sign...

    How are you feeling today?....

Very bored - I was meant to be going out with friends tonight but all my ID has been sent off to the DVLA so I can't go.

Do you feel sorry for any hearing loss

I felt sorry for a kid I was friends with who went from a moderate loss to profound deafness over night. More for her parents behaviour than her deafness though - she stopped speaking, they refused to sign so they just didn't communicate for the year and a half it took to get her a CI. :( And I...

    Deaf World Problems

I've always been able to find plenty of deafies in my area (perhaps because I live in London, UK) so I guess I'm lucky in that respect. Also, regarding, alarms... realising that your vibrating alarm has slipped onto the bed frame and it's now making a noise loud enough to wake up the entire...

    Getting Used to HAs

Yep. They're silver; definitely the latest. I've always been given new ones every few years from various brands, including when I changed from whatever it was before to a new open ear and then onto Spirit Zest. :)

Oh, right. I see you meant another extra setting. Yes, I'll ask about that.

    Getting Used to HAs

Thanks, I'll try those things. I've noticed that I'm not as affected by the noise as I used to be but it's very strange for me. I've been in therapy for a year and a half and am doing much better. :) I might try to get the hang of using them as they are and then have them turned up but I'll see...

Name Signs In BSL or ASL?

I should add that my mother was given one at a later date, but she didn't really keep it and kept to an abbreviated fingerspelling.

Name Signs In BSL or ASL?

Hm. I chose my sign name when I was younger. "Horse" because I liked horses. It doesn't match up to my personality/likes now but I've never been inclined to change it. It might be different in other places, (it seems lots of people were assigned there's!?) but when I joined the deaf...

    Getting Used to HAs

Anyone have tips for getting used to wearing hearing aids? I have moderate hearing loss in both ears, one very slightly worse than the other (I can't tell which, but I'm told not to mix my hearings aids up) and I've always had trouble wearing aids. I've had hearing aids since I was 8...

Sound quality with fmGenie Radio Aid with t/loop

I've been offered a radio aid by the Disabled Student's Allowance. They advised the Smartlink+ because it has a zoom feature (and bluetooth) but other parts of it's tech spec are behind. My first and third radio aids, many years ago, had zoom but my second and favourite did not. There's a...
