    ok here goes

In all likelihood, you are going to have much better hearing than you have had following activation and rehab. Approaching surgery/recovery as a temporary disability with job reassignment would be ideal. It's difficult to predict how fast one will recover. I had hearing immediately, but it is...

    Cochlear Implantation Surgery 7/28/15

That will normalize over time, but you MUST wear your processor everyday during waking hours for the brain to be able to adjust. In the meantime, you will be sensitive to every noise. I was as well during the first few months, then it just became sounds that were there. It's a great sign...

    Choosing a cochlear implant brand

Cochlear's internal device to this day cannot stimulate multiple electrodes simultaneously. That requires multiple power sources. Cochlear's device has one. The current steering involved in virtual channels requires multiple power sources. Cochlear may have dabbled with the idea in a lab...

    Cochlear Implantation Surgery 7/28/15

I commend you for going, but just as Ambrosia said, it is WAY too early for you. It hasn't even been a week. It was a month before music started to come in. I was pretty excited when I realized I enjoyed a song just as I did through my hearing aid, but with even more there. I'm betting...

    Considering implant for your child

Nope. They only become this so-called "cultural or linguistic minority" by deprivation of both a sense and their natural culture. Their natural culture is the one they are born into within their family. A tiny group of Deafies salivating over an infant born into the world with a broken...

    A Parent's joy versus animal's torment.

Then that absolves you a bit, but does not pose as a shining recommendation for those books. Nic has already gone over the differences, so I'm not going to repeat them.

    A Parent's joy versus animal's torment.

Actually, she clarified that the bulk of her post was not aimed at Caz. She didn't have anything to be humiliated about. Let's not sensationalize, Bott. You're better than that (and I say this with sincerity and respect.)

    A Parent's joy versus animal's torment.

Oops! Sorry, Nick! I should have trusted my initial hesitation on going with a specific pronoun.

    A Parent's joy versus animal's torment.

When you attempt to debate: it's not time to hit your pipe heavily. Your posts are full of spelling, grammar, and logic errors. You aren't trying to be creative when you debate. That's essentially trolling. Nic is hardly alienating anyone by arguing for ASL. CIs aren't going anywhere...

    A Parent's joy versus animal's torment.

They aren't your babies. Continuing to claim them will not go over well with anyone. It is absolutely nuts.

    A Parent's joy versus animal's torment.

The thread is being ignored not because of "truth hurts," but because it is not news, it's being brought up in simple minded terms, and that like it or not. .. CIs are a medical treatment. Medical treatments of all sorts involve other animal-types trials. It's not about life vs death. Quality...

    Hacking N5 CI rechargeable battery??

No, Edith down in Human Resources is not deciding your medical coverage. The company does select a particular package of coverage with the insurer, however, that is broad and predecided. Excluding DME seems rather unlikely. If so, you are quite screwed should you need a catheter. The issue...

Cochlear uses animal testing for med research!

My "wind program" just boils down to switching the the headpiece mic while wearing a cap. This may not work for you depending on the implant placement, but it's just right for me. The cap acts as a wind screen while still allowing for full clarity (not muffled.)

Cochlear uses animal testing for med research!

It is impossible for your internal to stimulate 8 electrodes simultaneously. That requires multiple power sources. It would also serve no benefit to fire that many electrodes at once due to channel interaction. I believe you intended to state that the total electrodes stimulated...

    Activation - Med El Synchrony

Did you hear anything at all during the setting of your comfort levels for any of the frequencies? You probably haven't heard or never heard most high frequencies so your brain doesn't know what to do with them.

Is it worth to cut bone to choose AB over Med-el?

I don't think I've ever heard of the implant seating being made into a safety concern in all of these years. In fact, it's been the exact opposite lately with some physicians apparently skipping the seating to save time, resulting in the implant actually moving and migrating the electrodes...

    CI choice

He went to a two processor clinic. That means every patient gets a choice of 2 processors with one intended to be for back-up. This is different from Med El's promotion.

    Cochlear Implant: Best Technology Myth

The higher PPS rates allow for more complex strategies. Rather than directly stimulating the recipient at those high rates, it makes strategies possible like Fidelity 120 as well as strategies that are in development. Med El and AB both have multiple power sources that require those higher PPS...

    My brother's CI expiriance

Thanks for the update and glad to hear he had a "rockstar" activation! He won't be missing that hearing aid at all! Is he going to try the Sonnet after all? They recently announced further news on their coming Bluetooth accessory. Between the ability to use headphones and connect to his...

    Problems with buzzing

The edition I linked to pertains to the N6 and N5. I would like to be clear on what they did, as well. IDR shouldn't be tied to a processor though, so I'm guessing there are tricks the N6 has to simulate a wider IDR that is obviously working for users. I'm seeing plenty of raves about the...
