The only reason why deaf people used the flying hands is to be visual as they cant hear the clapping hence why lot of them do this. That is why we have this nowadays to be visual as lot of us are deaf and cant hear? :)

yes its a miracle that everyone survived the accident. From what they said its better to land in water especially near the ferries that can rescue people than in populated neighborhood as it can do more damages and can result in deaths. So Sully is indeed a hero.
