"a deaf person getting punched before putting on a cochlear implant"
[yt]xsMHLRzs6tc[/yt]

Note: on youtube, the info says "This could be a typical attitude of several deaf people toward cochlear implant users!"

This is similar to a sketch I saw on Saturday Night Live but I forgot what was it about. oh well... probably "getting punched before eating" ?

I don't think it has anything to do with attitude of deaf people towards CI. It's about the feeling when you attach CI - the first seconds when you start hearing with CI.
I remember a great video called "Equilibrium" where someone "shows" the discomfort when putting on his CI and malfunction of it (and repair..). (Found it... goto YouTube and search for "Equilibrium". Definitely worth watching it..)
Appearantly, this differs between CI-users.

Lotte has absolutely no problem with putting the CI on / off (Have a look here..). No blinking, nothing. I guess she goes from deaf to hearing without a discomforting transition...

There was a thread here on AD on that I remember..

Ah, I misunderstood....
I like "Equilibrium" better than "Punched".... LOL

I've seen "Equilibrium", but I've never experienced anything quite like it. There is a 'blink' of a transition as I go from no sound to sound, and it's different than turning on a hearing aid, but ... definitely nothing like in Equilibrium.

Thanks for showing the original as I was trying to figure out how this was funny.

At first 3 days I do experienced same as eqilibrium guy did but after that its just like this way "............ asdhjksasdfjk" lol just instant sound no buzzing or any weird stuff but when turning it off or take it off at first few weeks I got eerie ghostly moan for about 30 sec-1 min but after that it got softer and softer and today its barely noticeable. Darn it lol cuz I loved that eerie ghostly moan when taking it off it sound cool  :giggle:

At times I experience the equlibrum video. If I spend too much time without my CIs, it is a shock to my system to put them on again.

To those who didnt see the joke...I think it is a joke about the Deaf community's attitude towards the CI. If I am correct about the joke, then I should be the one who should be offended but I did find it funny.

If I am missing the point, my apologies.

I think you're right, Shel. That's how I interpreted it.

Well that's what exactly I felt when I first put the CI on my head everytime, I get the headaches from wearing the CI if wear too long and that was the main reason why I regretted to have the CI, plus I don't find this funny at all.

This isn't comedy! That's not nice of deaf man is anti-ci. He need to respect CI people's choice. I didn't like this vlog. It's offended!

I have no intentions with any one who is CI borgs here or against to it. This video from the first post expresses as the person who is against the CI's - no offese AD'ers

I think it's funny so long as it has nothing to do with being anti-CI. i found the "punched" thing funny, i don't exactly think the guy is anti-food. if it DOES have something to do with the CI debate though then that kind of sucks the fun out of it.
