Hello All,

I'm a new member to this forum. I live in Sydney, Australia. My mother is aged: 55 years. She was born with "bilateral severe to profound sensor-neural hearing loss" (due to her mother contracting German measles when pregnant). I have attached her audiology report.

Unfortunately she has had limited/no success with Analog hearing aids that she stopped them wearing 20 years ago. Since then she has had no hearing aids. Until recently I had not been able to afford one but now I can.

I recently consulted an audiologist locally who based on her audiology report has suggested the oticon chili SP9. She has quoted 11990 AUD for a pair (with money back guarantee for 30 days).

Since it is beyond my budget and also due to the fact that my mother has never had a HA in the last 20 years, I have decided to purchase oticon chili SP5 for which we have been quoted $6000 AUD. I can stretch my budget to oticon chili SP7 for which we have been quoted $8500 but I'd rather go with Oticon SP5 as her first HA.

My hope is that my mother over time will get used to this. As technology improves, hopefully I can purchase a superior one in future (maybe after 5 years.)

I would appreciate a lot if you all can comment on this choice with alternatives if any. I look forward to your replies.

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions and recommendations.

hey there! I have a hearing aid kinda like your mom's except it's a kids version but it is also the Safari/chilli verison
with that hearing aid, your mom will have the streamer which is the remote control that lets her listen to an ipod and other audio sources such as the TV, telephone since it has bluetooth :)
best thing? U can recharge the streamer on your computer.

btw, when your mom puts on the hearing aid, she'll be hearing the melody tones atfer the startup (which I really do love)

I have a Safari/chilli too and I do not like that is has a button instead a little
switch to use the T coil to talk on the phone. I am really forgetful and when
I am finish talking the phone I forget to push the button so I can talk to people or listen to the TV. I like the little switch as I could feel it and know what my HA is set on with the button I have to keep fooling around with it. I also had the music shut off on my HA , it played music when you put it on,
I hated it and the beeping sound when you turn the sound up or down that is gone too.

I don't have Oticon now, but I have in the past, and they make quality products.

@whatdidyousay, the beeps when you turn the volume up or down is pretty normal though :D but it`s always a good volume reminder 2 know which way I turned the volume. @Bottesini, I had Oticon since 2005 and thought they were pretty good.
