Your famous ancestors....?

I'll start since odds are one of us in AD could very well share a common ancestor. :shock:

So far I've found out that I'm a descendant of the father of Pocahontas. She had a 1/2 sister named Cleopatra and from there starts my lineage. The name Cleopatra can be seen here and as you can see the lineage is vast if genealogy is done on the rest of her siblings.

I am 1/2048 Powhatan indian blood.

A Disney movie was made on the Pocahontas story.

Through my maternal grandfather I am related to the mother of Abraham Lincoln, and through my maternal grandmother I am somehow related to Wallis Simpson, the divorced American woman that Edward VIII gave up the British throne for, way back in about 1934!
 
Just found out today that I'm a direct descendant of William Wallace of Scotland known as "Braveheart," a Scottish hero.

It would great if you found out you had a very rich ancestor! I do not know if I have any famous ancestors, I did I find out my dad had an uncle he never taked about! I came to a dead end on my dad side. He was born in Russia in the 1800's and no in in his family had birth records! So your birth was remembered by an event that happen that day! Just as a great snow storm or the day a cow broke it leg! I think my dad was day a cow broke a leg!?
 
NO idea at this moment....I will ask my dad...I think he told me he can go way back to 1800 but not 100% sure.
 
Not really. Just lesser known politicians, an inventor, and that. I'm also Prussian, and can trace all of my Prussian ancestors all the way to the birth of Prussia.

Hubby has plenty of famous ancestors, including the British Royal family.

If you are a descendant of King Edward III, then you are related to George Washington.

It is common that New England Families like Bush, Washington, Adam, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and other families are related to each other. If your family came from New England, then you are likely related to bunches of US presidents.
 
Well, now that I have royal indian blood in me (1/2048 th) I can certainly say that Chief Powtan, my great (x9) grandfather was a "rich" man with a tribe of 10,000 to 20,000 and I think 4 or 5 wives, and some 15 kids, one of them my great (x8) grandmother who is 1/2 sister of Pocahontas. I also learned that there are some 50,000 descendants of Chief Powhatan. So, if you want to leave a legacy, have a lot of kids.
 
I know an old friend who is a descendant of Chief Powhatan. And he is a redhead. According to ancestry scholars, everyone is related to royal family.
 
Yeah, weird. At least you know some one here that is directly related to Chief Powhatan.

We don't really have any famous ancestors... but my grandfather was the youngest bank manager in Canada... that's sort of famous? :lol:
 
I did have a well known ancestor in UK called George Fife Angas. He owned a carriage business, and I believe he has been known to create carriages for the aristrocrats and possibly Royals. He was my Grandmother's great grandfather, I think.

John Howard Angas was also well known for his works.

He also was the first and largest landholder in South Australia and the name Angas can be seen in some places.

I have not been able to find any more ancestors before 1790's.

Rather hard to do when you have such a populous surname such as Evans in the family tree.

Kinda like how it's estimated 8% to possibly half of the Asian population are descendants of Genghis Khan?

Hans Graf (John Grove) is perhaps my most famous ancestor though there is some doubt whether he actually was my ancestor. He's said to have been a baron.

He's variously listed as greoff, graf, groff ,etc.

There you go Doug. Make your own fame. Don't rely on being related 9 times removed to someone famous to increase your self esteem.

You know... according to the baptism/birth records... I am directly related (great-grandfather times something) to Captain James Cook, yet everyone in the family treats him as if he did something unspeakable. :hmm:

Wonder why such a famous historical figure would be blacklisted on my grand-dad side of the family. :hmm:

And would I want to base my pride on that? :hmm:
