yes, it's another hearing test website

That test just said I have difficulty hearing in background noise. Wish it would tell me what % I got correct. When the samples were being played, I thought there were some numbers in there. I felt I did well in quiet but as the noise increased, I started guessing more and more. I already know I am deaf unaided and hear similar to someone who has a mild-severe hearing loss with my HAs.

i did a research project on this campaign and presented at a conference about how audist it is...huh.

I did TERRIBLE on background sound with my implant... it told me to go to an audiologist

I was looking at this "Hear the World" site and was thinking about all the d/ Deaf folks who play and enjoy music.....after looking at this site, I see why you typed what you did, JennyB. Am interested to know more of your project and what you presented- is it on your blog?

No, it isn't in my blog. My computer was recently wiped...but I may have my paper still on it. If I do I will post it!

They have a magazine that accompanies the campaign and I strongly suggest all of you stop and laugh at it next time you are in a book store. It is called "Hear the World: A magazine for the culture of Hearing" It makes me laugh every time I see it. My favorite was an entire article on earrings...as though people with hearing loss don't wear earrings and this was an exclusively hearing phenomenon.

Did you feel that you could understand some of the words in background noise? How well do you understand others without reading lips in the real world? My best is 50% of what my dad says with some background noise but for strangers it's more like 20%. I plan to get a HINT and CNC test next time I see the audiologist. Id like to know so I can compare how much I improved after I get stem cells.

Deaf people have ears? I thought we all look like this:

*It's a reptilian humanoid head bust

maybe a few. the louder the background the worst I did. Even though I can hear it, It seem like all the sounds are blend in. kinda like camouflage. I am not a great lipreader so I don't do well anyway. I'm a one and one type of person. I'm the type of person who have to have both lipreading AND sounds to understand. I can't understand lipreading by itself and I can't understand sounds by itself either.

Now I had my son do the test and it told him he have no problem...

:rofl2: Are you serious? A campaign on earrings! :rofl2:

That's hilarious.

The test wasn't screen reader friendly but I got my wife to help me out. My ability to distinguish consonants totally vanished as the background noise increased. No surprise there.

I must say it's hard to advertise hearing aids and encourage going to an audiologist to the extreme that this site and many others do without coming across as audist. It's inherently audist to tell people to go to an audi and cure their hearing loss like it's the plague.

Sorry about it not being screen reader friendly... They should have been more sensitive about that.
