Hi I have a question. Does anyone use an X10 Security System? I'd like to have one of those for the apartment, but unfortunatly, the X10 Security System is not for the deaf.

It's a wireless version of the security system that you don't wire into the wall, but instead, the motion sensors and door/window sensors communicate wirelessly. Plus, it's great for not to pay the false alarm fines to the central monitoring station. Thus, I can have the security console call my cell phone and call my mom about the event that occoured, such as burglary.

I know I can lock all windows and front door, but for me, I think it's worth it for my safety and security.

I thought about that brand a few weeks ago. I found out that a friend of mine has a Rostech Electronic. wireless barncam.com Model 900.

He has a color monitor, and installed three outdoor cameras to check his cow farm which is about 300 feet. The quality is pretty good. I have not found other models that can go farther like 300 feet. I also heard that many wireless cameras are not that great.

We will keep looking for one...

Well, here's a question. Can a d/Deaf hear the phone?

If I'm deaf, it's not possible to use a cell phone, unless I care to waste 5 hours of battery life for keeping my phone online, which I'll have to charge every night with my Pocket PC Phone.

The security console has no ability to send text messages.

Is your apartment bad area?

I have seen some websites that provide people to look at their cell phone screen. Your computer can hook up your "web-cameras" , and it goes thru a website's' server for you to see the pictures on your cell phone. Pretty cool?
(I am not crazy about it.)

I think it is ridiculous. It takes less than one minute for someone to break your door and kill someone or steal things. If you have good quality locks for the doors and windows, it buys more time for the police to arrive at your home within 5 to 10 minutes. It is not perfect. The security alarm might be worth it. I wouldn't want one because some robbers are smart to know how to cut the phone wires before they break in.

That's terrible. Perhaps, your cell phone have a vibration that help you...

Apartment Security System
Too many people who live in apartments and condos don’t have reliable wireless security systems. Like it or not, having a home security system is more important than ever. Big cities are full of desperate people willing to steal anything to get by. And multi-unit buildings provide the perfect opportunity for thieves because they’re full of single, working people who are rarely home.

Don’t get robbed
Apartment buildings and condo complexes are like a buffet of crime scenes for thieves. They can go from apartment to apartment while all the renters are at work, completely ransacking everyone’s place. Sure, some buildings have electronic door buzzers, but how many times have you held back the door for a stranger slipping into the apartment building behind you? And how many times have you avoided talking to that weird-looking guy who lives in apartment 32B? Apartment security and condo security are serious concerns. Most renters live in or around major, crime-ridden cities and have no source of protection other than the locks on their doors. It’s dangerous to live in an unsecured apartment building, in a big city area, with so many other people you don’t know. Having a wireless security system can help.

Protector Plus watches over your apartment
Do you live alone? Do you telecommute? Do you have an expensive computer that needs to be kept secure? Do you have a nice bike? Maybe you just have a pet rock collection that needs safekeeping! In any case, if you rent you need a high-quality apartment security system that will protect your things, and keep you safe!

Deter robberies with lighting
It's a well-known fact that good lighting scares burglars away. Let Protector Plus help you frighten robbers away from your apartment or condo with great security lighting. Place a Remote Control beside your bedside table at night and use the "lights on" button if you hear a bump in the night. Instantly, all your lights will go on. That robber will head for the hills faster than you can say Protector Plus!

Keep your security deposit
Protector Plus is a completely wire-free security system. Don't wait around for the installation guy to come over and rip your walls apart - your landlord would have a fit! This fantastic wireless apartment alarm system comes with all the tools you need to protect your walls. And the best part is you’ll never pay a monthly monitoring fee for the security system because it calls your cell phone, your neighbor, or anyone else you'd like! The Protector Plus apartment burglar alarm is a one-time purchase with a free one-year warranty.

Is your apartment bad area?

No matter where you're at. You can't assume you're in a very very safe area with a super-duper low-crime rate. I'm strict so that's even if I lock doors and keep windows closed. Even if I do go low-tech, adding a security system provides extra security as if in case of a breach, I can be notified.

I have seen some websites that provide people to look at their cell phone screen. Your computer can hook up your "web-cameras" , and it goes thru a website's' server for you to see the pictures on your cell phone. Pretty cool?

I don't think I could install a wireless security camera outside of the apartment, near the front door.

No security system is perfect. I agree. But again, I'm strict even if I lock my doors and keep windows closed. Thus and in the future, I'll take every measure necessary to secure my perimeter. I don't want a monitored security system. There can be false alarm charges if accidents happen. If I call my mom to inform about that, my mom can call the police.

That's terrible. Perhaps, your cell phone have a vibration that help you...

Even with a vibrator, how can I be sure if a security system calls me when I'm in class at college?

Overall, I'm sorry you're confused.

Anyway, does anybody have any experience with using a wireless security system such as X10 Protector Plus?

Wait a minute. I had to look at the website that you showed the link. I realized that it is a different website address. They look same information. Your link does not mention about the video camera. That's odd. See the link: X10.com - X10 Home Security, Wireless Security Camera, Home Automation, Electronics and More! . The x10 website looks so different from last year.

These websites have so many links. They are confusing and bad information. Don't buy anything on these websites. Keep looking for other websites. I should have looked at the link in the first place. I am not confused overall. I cannot help you this time.

OK, thanks. In this case, the $199 WisDom Wireless Security System Starter Kit has all the basics I need as it's similar to X10 Protector Plus (excludes remote control and lamp modules, which (for lamp modules) is no big deal considering I use Insteon); however, it seems the WisDom is more advanced and it allows me to select whether the security system will be used for monitoring by central station or not, but since I want to monitor it by myself, I can disable that.

The reason why I chose X10 Protector Plus in the first place is because I've done a search for '"security system" apartment' and I went into the website as quoted above (about security system for apartments) when it first displayed in the search result. But long before I do a search, I went into SmartHome's website and I saw a couple of wireless security systems available, such as WisDom Wireless Security System Starter Kit. I looked at those and I thought "hmm...maybe it can be used for apartments without wall-mounting the security panel" and I looked at the price. The second thought that I have is "I don't want the alarms to be reported to a central station, so I think those security systems may not be an option for me," so then I performed a search for X10 Protector Plus (like I mentioned above). During the time of writing, I've realized that I need to look deep inside the user manuals--mainly the Programming Manual (PDF) for WisDom Wireless Security System Starter Kit and I found all the information I need before I make a purchasing decision.

I think overall--it's well worth the price and quality, so I'll scratch the X10 Protector Plus off my list. As for price comparison, the door/window sensor costs more than X10's, but Rokonet Risco Group (the makers of WisDom security system) has more security (non-camera-related) products than X10's.

Thanks for your help.

I think that it is worth for you to buy them now to find out what is good for you. Please check the info for a 30-days refund and a restock fee. (Actually, I hate the restock fee). If you decide that you don't want them, you could sell them on eBay instead of paying the restock fee. I just thought of it. Good Luck!

Off subject: I checked this company's background. It is in Irvine, California, but the website history stated that it is in "Indpls, IN." I am not sure why. Web-Based Whois + NSlookup + Trademark Search + B to B Search I always check a company's background address and its website's owner address before I buy anything because of a scam internet business. The FBI will NOT help us unless someone who works for a government because the FBI's database scam reports are over 400,000 documents from people so the gov't agents are much fewer percent of reports than our people's report. (Military people are not included in the government.)

Strange, even though X10 is very popular among home automation...
