If you set your wireless router under WPA (Wireless Protected Access) encryption protocol, you may be interested to read this. Just recently, a team of Japanese researchers claimed that they have able to crack a wireless network under WPA encryption protection within a minute, exposing the vulnerability of encryption that commonly used in wireless networks in digital home.
Together with Masakatu Morii (Kobe University), Toshihiro Ohigashi from Hiroshima University co-developed a new way of hacking that exposes the vulnerability of TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) which commonly used for WPA encryption protocol. You may aware that WPA could be easily cracked but as compared to conventional method that takes around ten to fifteen minutes for this to happen, the new method seems to be much more powerful that manages to shorten the crack time significantly. Nevertheless, they further emphasized that this hacking method will not work on WPA2 that being enhanced with much safer AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm.
No specific detail was provided due to the security concerns, you may want to start considering a much safer and advanced encryption selection when setting up your wireless router in digital home. Further details is expected to be shared to public during Hiroshima conference event held at end of September this year.
