I am just trying to comphrend the differences between WPA and WEP. Which one is the better? Please state your reasons.

I have searched for this information on AD, but I am afraid that I could not find it.

Thanks!

If you look up in Wiki, there is explaination on history and vulernables on WEP and WPA plus WPA2

It is all about security WEP is one of the oldest security protocol, unfortunately it is hackable. WPA and WPA has better security BUT not fool proof unhackable. Just that WPA2 would require much longer time to crack in network compared to WEP.

Go ahead Wiki and learn :)

WPA2 is better.

Some old desktop/laptop do not support WPA2 then use WPA1. WEP crack under 5 minutes. :D

he is correct... I can't WPA2 becuase 2 hardware have WPA2 but other 2 hardware don't have WPA2, I use WPA only for all

most goes with WPA-TKIP. WEP is crap.

wpa2 is already broken by japanese researchers a month ago so nothing is hack proof peroid

correction - WPA got hacked, not WPA2.

Japanese Researchers Hacking Method Exposed WPA Encryption Vulnerability
If you set your wireless router under WPA (Wireless Protected Access) encryption protocol, you may be interested to read this. Just recently, a team of Japanese researchers claimed that they have able to crack a wireless network under WPA encryption protection within a minute, exposing the vulnerability of encryption that commonly used in wireless networks in digital home.

Together with Masakatu Morii (Kobe University), Toshihiro Ohigashi from Hiroshima University co-developed a new way of hacking that exposes the vulnerability of TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) which commonly used for WPA encryption protocol. You may aware that WPA could be easily cracked but as compared to conventional method that takes around ten to fifteen minutes for this to happen, the new method seems to be much more powerful that manages to shorten the crack time significantly. Nevertheless, they further emphasized that this hacking method will not work on WPA2 that being enhanced with much safer AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm.

No specific detail was provided due to the security concerns, you may want to start considering a much safer and advanced encryption selection when setting up your wireless router in digital home. Further details is expected to be shared to public during Hiroshima conference event held at end of September this year.

Easy to explain by use picture of each type key security

Nothing is hack-proof but better security and harder to break in... WPA2 is best but still can be broken.

.

You forget about wired.

Farout metaphor between internet securities and keys.

Thank you all.

The reason why is I am just new to my sprint MIFI card and accidently set up WEP instead of WPA2. Today, I figured it out myself and finally correctly set up WPA2. Whew! I am just learning, ok.:eek3:

this thread made me double-check my wifi and..... i'm embarrassed to say that it was on WPA-TKIP

I just changed it to WPA2-AES :mad2:

LOL That's what I am puzzled when I configured my mifi card. Yes, I do have it.

Well, Should be WPA-TKIP for MVP and VPAD.
