Does anyone have a home-based business? If so, what is it that you do?

Working at home, being your own boss and making money quick is the American Dream. Think about it, you don't work for anyone else but yourself. You set up your own hours, and still rake in more money than working for someone else. It's a challenge, but it's doable if you are willing to work.

I've noticed the majority of Deaf people (no offense) have no jobs because they encounter discrimination and give up, or perhaps it's because they simply like receiving Government checks than making a penny for every sweat through labor. Hate to break it to you, but you'll never get the chance to enjoy the finer things in life if you continue being a slacker. I mean, c'mon, you only live once -- don't you want to live a better life before you die? Heh.

Anyway, I'm curious as to how many Deaf people own a small/home-based business, or if they're interested in making extra money working part-time at home. Holla!

I am still in high school. But, I'm not planning on to own a small/home business in future..

Good for you, Willy, assuming you're going to college after high school, and work for someone else eventually.

I would at least rather own a shop instead of work at home but I don't do any of those. I'll rather get a job than live off with ssi. It's suck.

:werd: to that! You never know what things out there you will enjoy if you are slacking off. If you got discriminated call someone who can help you with that situation.

As for me I work landscaping. I been told to try to work at home but I told them I dont want to. I wanna go out and work my ass off then on day off party my ass off with the money I earn on my own. Im gonna party today. Who wants to join? My treat.

Yeah, I make $150-$200 everyday. All I have to do is spamming (my computer works for me).

Here's the screenshot of stats of April 4.

Lets say I make $150 a day. That is like $1050 a week.

$1050 x 52 weeks(one year) equals $54,600.

I have some ability to get my own business. Unfortunately if you are planning on get your own business. Maybe you are required to pay the tax and ins. They are not easy. I mean they are kind of annoy of doing like that. Also I have seen my ex who have his own business how it runs.

Anyway, for many things like I can create something and some people might be interested to buy some things from me. Someday I can set up my own business and to see how things are going. :D

You know how the business run.

eh I work part-time but i hope I get full-time at same place.. but yeah I know what u mean alex... from I see most jobs doesn't want to deal with deaf people but I work in retail so I deal with bitchy customers who doesn't understand why a deaf is workin at a drugstore? anyways... I just focus on what I need to do and workin part-time isn't that bad for me but I prefer full-time job but if my foot got worse then I may be on ssdi for life.. which I notice.. that it's no fun receivin SSI right now cuz SSI is gonna cut me off soon  I probably let SSI cut me off then I save $$$ to move out how that sound? heh.. let me know.. ;)

I do really wanna work at home, save my time do not have to go out to work back and forth. but I will try someday later on.

Yea, I think too many deaf people give up or think they cant work with hearing people. I wish those who are like that would just apply anywhere...look in the want ads and just apply./..not gonna hurt!

damn right! get out and do something, ya scalawag! sure life ain't fair and there's plenty of discrimination around.

you know what's unfair to me? me paying tax to fund for those who sit like a cripple and mope around that life's unfair :mad2:

I know this one girl who is fluent in spoken/written English and Spanish plus ASL and has a BA degree in Theatre. She applied at a deaf center but didnt get a job and is not working. She thinks she is unable to work with hearing people ..I told her with her fluency in 3 f***cking languages, she has skills that many people dont have...apply to anywhere! I guess it is a self-esteem issue or something.

i believe that is something with self esteem issue and lack of having deaf role models for what deaf people make for a living. :(

I understand there are people with personal problem and as long as they TRY to take some effort to combat with it... I'm ok with that. There are counseling service for that. However - if people just want to view themselves as cripple and live off on welfare check like SSI... I've got a problem with that.
