SHELTON, Conn. -- Police in Shelton said a woman and her three children were found dead in a home on Tuesday, according to the mayor.
Around 1 p.m., Shelton police and EMS responded to a home on Redwood Circle for a report of a medical emergency. Officials said upon arrival, emergency personnel confirmed a 26-year-old female was found unresponsive and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police believed Victoria Hope died while giving birth to triplets.
Police said Hope was found in a bedroom, along with two newborns and found the third child in the bathroom.
According to police, Hope's mother discovered her daughter on the floor surrounded by blood and called for help. She said she did not see the newborns.
Hope had two other children with her husband; a 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old daughter, who was the only other person in the home. That child was found in a crib in the bedroom where Hope's body was found.
Hope's parents said they didn't know she was pregnant and may have tried to hide the pregnancy, as she did with the pregnancy of her 2-year-old daughter. At that time, no one knew she was pregnant until she was on the way to the hospital to give birth.
Hope's parents said they noticed their daughter had gained weight, but Hope blamed it on a cyst on her ovary. Police said there was no cyst and the medical condition was made up.
According to police, several people they spoke with including Hope's boyfriend Ricky, said they suspected Hope was pregnant, but she denied it.
One neighbor said, "They are a lovely family, and we are grieving for them."
A preliminary report from the medical examiner said Hope died from blood loss and the babies are being classified as stillborn deaths.
