Woman charged with leaving alligator at airport; charged with animal cruelty

Yup. They're not native to here, and belong in Florida. That's where they belong.

Import alligators and brown recluse spiders to Chicago.

Michigan Lake with full of alligators.

Just one problem-- neither would last long here. We already have other stuff taking care of the bugs, and those alligators aren't freshwater(?) gators...... I think they're saltwater? :dunno: I have no idea. Lake Michigan is a freshwater lake, just FYI.

I can replace Michigan Lake with saltwater and put Florida-style weather in Chicago.

No more snow, dump the snowplow.

Good luck with that. It'd take a lot of water to replace this lake with saltwater. Do you know how big it is?

Poor baby alligator! I hate animal cruelty. It didn't ask for it. :(

Gators live in fresh water and brackish water. They live in rivers, ponds, marshes, lakes, swamps, mall drainage ditches, and golf courses.

Not just Florida. We have native gators in South Carolina and other states.

And I just learned something new. Interesting. I thought they were only limited to Florida, but apparently not. I've only seen gators in zoos, and I don't really fancy facing one in the wild, where it could drag me to my death. I'll pass.

You know that TV show called "Billy the Exterminator?" I learned a lot from that show. I wish they would bring it back. I loved learning new things from it.

I've seen them in a lot of different places here, wild. We have a huge one named Charlie who lives in a pond on one of the military bases here.

And even military bases have gators. I am surprised they let him stay there.

He's their mascot and celebrity. He's been there for at least 40 years. They feed him chickens. They sell little stuffed toy versions of Charlie. The only casualty so far has been a lawn mower that he snatched from the groundskeeper.

Maybe the groundskeeper was disturbing his nap time? Sure sounded that way. And I think it's cool they let him stay there. It shows they care about him, and most people don't, but if he's that well-known, then it's a good thing.
