Alex helped to install a new Microsoft wireless network in my computer and laptop a few hours ago. A base that attached the main computer and has at least 4 other available plugs for extra computers. So, I got a wireless card plugged in my laptop, too. I think it's awesome! I can carry my laptop anywhere in my house or even outside while I'm on the internet without a wire!
This stuff is still new to me.... So, is there anyone that have wireless network? Experiences, advices, etc?

Cool...I have the same thing. It is awesome. I love having all the computers in the house connected to the cable modem. WTF Alex and E!

Even Outside?? how far it will working well?? like 500 feet? Me so curious.
 
E, you can try go to downtown of New York, I hear they offer free wireless in certain spot where you can use on laptop. It's pretty kewl.
 
Yep, I have wireless router in my house. Now I can surf on internet while I am shitting in bathroom.

Yeah, 802.11B works up to 150 feet away from antenna.

If you want more range, get 802.11A or G (they are more exensive)

I wanna upgrade to G. I currently have B. B is good enough for now. I can't wait to get laptop, cuz we are going to set up a wireless link between 2 or more while driving down the road on vacation (passengers, not drivers)...play games against each other or whatever.
 
G isnt that wonderful with 2 mbps road runner, since B is cheaper and they can do 54mbps.


G is good for local networking or in the future when Internet2 comes out.
 
LET me know about it. I was thinking about getting one myself after seeing it at my old school - of course the technology improved AFTER I left damn.........but the problem is laptop - they usually cant last on their own for long time.......

Guys!!! Guess where am I right now??




I'm OUTSIDE without a wire.... This is soooo COOL! Yep, it's working like perfect, I noticed the network in my laptop is a little faster than my computer. It's great, I love it! I can go outside in the summer, lying under the sun and surfin on the net! ;)

I'll keep you guys update about this thing. I'll find a tape measure or whatever that called to measure up the distance and find out how far I can get online! :mrgreen:

:rofl: I agree with u cuz it can get messy in bathroom and uh the laptop can be ruined less than 5 seconds I ain't sayin it here if u understand what I wud gonna say u'll not say it here either :rofl:
 
PLOP! thats the sound u don't want to hear it land on ur lap top LOL BACK ON TOPIC< im thinking of getting those for my puter as i m tired of dealing with plugs here ........
 
It's nifty if you run your own WISP. I run one. With a 100 feet high antenna at my place on a ridge. And you can drive around into the nearby town about 3 miles away and still use your laptop. I usually surf while I'm waiting at a sonic resturant for my order. :-o
