Is it any good?

100 percent better than Vista. But it still has problems with locking up every once in a while. Not enough for me to care though.

Good. I'm glad. You see I am getting a new computer and it is preinstalled with Windows 7.

Question: Is it a dramatic shift learning Windows 7 from XP. I run XP now so when I get my new machine I hope I don't have to learn a whole bunch of new stuff. Will I?

I haven't used XP in years but it is a bit different and I think more user friendly. The basics are still the same so you shouldn't have many problems.

my windows 7 pro.. very good...no locking..

My old PC with XP 32 bit was so slower and boring as I felt like old man. I upgraded new PC with Windows 7 64 bit made me feel like a new life and faster as young man again.

But, if you buy Asus Eee PC 1018PB-BK801 netbook. That OS is "Windows 7 Starter" is different as not full features and not for gaming as for your budget.

Some netbooks have "Windows 7 Home Premium"

Laptop use "Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate."

I've gone from Ubuntu to Windows 7. Although I miss Ubuntu, Windows 7 is damn impressive. Fast and stable. It looks nice, too. :)

There's not much to learn if you are coming from Windows XP. In fact, Windows 7 is easier to use.

Correct. Windows 7 home premium is not good idea for Intel Atom 1.66Ghz, single core and probably 1GB RAM.

Windows 7 Starter is pretty good enough.

I just research in few min ago.

Now, I don't know what I said. I prefer Windows 7 over Windows XP for better WIFI setting.

dramatic shift? to me... no but to some... yes but if you are good with computer and can learn new thing easily... then you should have no problem with it. You'll get used to everything in a few days or a week.

Windows 7 home premium should be okay with your Asus netbook and I recommend that you need to upgrade a RAM your netbook to 2GB.

Window 7 is built on the creakingly old core i.e vista..

ahh you left Nixie Pixel for hottie UK & French foreigners (Crystal & Charline) from the commercial TV: windows 7 was "my idea" ? :P

I have Windows 7 Home Premium in my netbook and PC; works great.

AqueBlue, You can get other netbook for your budget. You can play some gaming and everything avoid "Windows 7 Starter" OS.
