Why do people eat spiced up hot foods?

people at work brag about how spicy hot of food they eat. all they talk about is how hot it is, not how good it is. can someone tell me why its so great eating food that is painful?

let's have a spicy discussion! :naughty:

I say... multiple health reasons. that's why poor people are healthier than rich people. clears up your sinus. increases your body temp to kill germs/virus. and spices up your sex life.

if you are having gastrointestinal issue with spicy food, it's because you are filling your body with junk food (especially acidic food) for so long that your body is incapable of processing even natural food. Asian and African people have been eating spicy food for thousands of years. no problem. and they don't even have state of arts hospitals.

to me - tabasco sauce is like a ketchup. spicy? comical. not even close.

Hahaha...

I like my food spicy too. I prefer it's spicy and flavorful, not just spicy to a point where I can't enjoy my food. If it's for a challenge, I wouldn't mind super-spicy.

When I go to IHOP or Denny's and get a chicken fried steak meal (with fries and cheese-topped hash browns), I always ask for a bottle of tabasco sauce. I'll then top my gravy, my hash brown, and my fries with so much tabasco sauce that my wife cries. ;)

they say chill is addictive, not for me....i eat cinnimon sticks and cloves i adore them but vamy why dont you book bed in icu now because diet like that i would not make long term plans

I love spicy foods, I eat them everyday. My favorite condiment is tapatio. I can put it on just about anything.

You need spicy food when you eat bland food, when you age, when your sex drive hits minus numbers and your wifes cooking is yuck

I like spice, but not overly so and I don't like hot. I'm more into the Italian way of cooking...onions and garlic are plenty for me.

I must must have my haberno hot sauce on almost everything I eat. I am addicted to that high I get from eating extremely spicy food. Sometimes, I worry if it will cause damage to my digestive system in the future.

only if it's too acidic. that would be bad.

Look at a good cooking show. They want you to taste the food with just a hit of spice. Chef ramsey would send you to work at burger king if tabasco sauce were your major food enhancer

Poor people are healthier than rich people? This is news to me. In fact, as far as I know, junk food is a staple of poor people in developed countries because it costs more to buy healthy food like fruits and nuts than to buy over processed junk food. I've never seen a case were healthy food cost less.

In my case, hot spicy food makes my Meniere's kick in so I can't handle it. I can really feel it in my ears. I buy good non-hot spices at Penzys like garlic, basil, dill, etc, but I have to stay away from some of the hot stuff, sadly.

look around. which country has the highest rate of obesity? and cancer? yep - America... and if you look at the top 10 ranking... they're all wealthy nations. wealthy nations have a high rate of obesity and cancer rates whereas... it's opposite in poor country.

poor people in wealthy nations are, of course, forced to buy junk/fast food but in poor people in poor country are relatively healthier. they eat bare minimum food with sufficient nutrition to get by and to stay healthy, they eat spicy food because they cannot afford to get sick. and they grow their own crops or share with their neighbors.

Cayenne pepper is supposed to help your digestion, boost your metabolism and helps you burn fat!!! They even have it in pill form so you don't have to eat it.

But it can be hard on your kidneys
