I see plenty of ads where people mention that they will need to apply for lost titles. How about applying for lost title and then put your vehicle up for sale? I think it really hurt a person's ability to sell vehicles with title if it was listed earlier with lost title. I'm thinking more along the line of a 10 years old Focus or Taurus, not a Model A Ford.

So this pretty much selling a vehicle with no documentation? How would the buyer know if the car is legit or not? Sounds very dishonest...

I once looked at a car in the UK yrs ago. It was a 1993 Cherokee - one of thefirst to have been sold in the UK. Seller had no paperwork, the locks had been forced, there was damage to the ignition and the VIN and chassis plates looked to have been tampered with. Everything about the car screamed it had been Stolen.
I walked away.

its fine for me. I just start writing down the vin and check with local PD to status before handing over cash. I also haggle price to what I want to pay and THEN subract the cost of getting title from final sale. Most of the time the sellers always freak out when I write vin and refuse to sell or they offer even lower price. I always report them.

Gee, too bad, that year was one of best Cherokee years.

Good idea, I didn't bother with any of that since the last vehicle I bought was '99 Kawasaki Ninja and it had a valid Virginia title, but I'll keep that in mind if I'm ever in the market for a ride with no paperwork.

My dad actually owed the first official one into the UK. It had just come into the local SAAB dealer as a demonstrator car ( as the dealer was thinking of offering Chrysler models as well)
I remember it as a good car, but he only owned it for a year, the fuel consumption from the petrol engine was too much - this is the UK remember? - The engine and drivetrain were great, but the quality of the interior and the switch placements were a bit all over the place. I remember the interior screws around the tailgate were rusty as well - you don't expect that from a new car!
Still I think JEEP sorted out on the later models.

My Dad must have liked it though, he went on to buy a Diesel Grand Cherokee a few years later.

I saw nice 2000 Subaru Legency in Craigslist and my daughter called them. He said that he is waiting for new title coming from Jefferson City, MO. He will let us know when he gets them. It apparently he lost the title somewhere in his house. Once he contacts us, I would go over and test drive and negotiate with him for reasonable price. It's a real nice car. He had to sell it because he lost the driver license (apparently arrested for DWI) and had to sell it. I am planning to replace my daughter's Honda Accord that she wrecked but driveable, it's not highway worthy anymore but can be driven on local roads. Because of right wishbone strut is bent. Honda will soon go to scrapyard for parts.

In matter of fact, I've heard people misplace their car or motorcycle titles. It's a real pain to request DMV for a replacement. They should have get a replacement title before they start selling their vehicles. Idiots!
