My kids who are basically adults and one is a teenager still gets this incorrectly from time to time. I say some just don't know better and lack the knowledge. Sometimes I think that some people just are being incredibly stupid because they choose to say it as a means to be hurtful. My kids slip up every once in a while and all I have to do is just give them a look and they correct themselves....
