Why can I hear better in nightclubs?

I wear my BTE when I go to nightclubs. I often find that I can hear one to one conversations better than some people who are not even HoH. I.e. I have no problem having a conversation with one person even when the music is really loud. Yet often, non HoH people will struggle to have a conversation in that environment.

Any ideas? Does anyone else experience the same?

I work in a nightclub and I definitely don't experience better hearing! Lol

I would say that you probably can't.... but do to the load music others are on an equal playing feild so to speak and having experience it seems you hear better.

Then again maybe it has to do with the mold blocking out sound and the directional mic focusing on the voice....

:dunno: but I have noticed this too

Maybe because people are screaming, or making a much more concerted effort when they speak, so they can be heard.

hahahaha because the BTE's take out the loud volumes

wonderful technology , eh

I agree with TxGolfer's first sentence. As for the BTE's masking out extraneous noise, those are digitals which I could never really get used to. I'm like "Give it all to me and let my brain do the work"! And dat's why I, to this day, still wear analogs, and yes, they still make 'em.

probably because you are used to getting info from peoples faces, so in a nightclub is no different so long as there is decent light.

its the drinks,,, watch what they mix in your drinks.

HAHA!...Someone told me once it's better to be deaf at a night club than hearing!...People (hearing) slur their words when they're drunk, and actually, nobody can understand what they are saying, and yeah, the music is usually loud, so people are hollaring to each other.

Trying to have a decent conversation at at nightclub is pointless!.....Go to listen to the music and get a buzz! That's about it, unless you decide you want to pick somebody up. Just remember that the next morning, that person will totally be a "different Person" than the night before! HAHA. Catch my drift?

I was wondering how does a hearing person even have a one in one conversation in a nightclub.

I think the reasons Exr can understand better because of the combination of these things:

1. Hearing aids filter out loud background noises (but in a way, I found it also filters out people who are talking loudly because of the background noise)

2. people raise up their voice to speak louder and even clearer enough to make lipreading easier. What person would mumble and speak softly in nightclubs?

3. People keep their sentences short and simple in nightclubs. Too many 3 or more syllables words is hard to hear in nightclubs even for hearing people. They just don't talk much in nightclubs. ExR probably feel like he is having a conversation because this is what he is used to because he is HOH.

Do you have a conductive hearing loss? Apparently some people with this type of loss can hear better with background noise.

use the notepad and tell em' "I can't hear you because the music is sooo loud, I'm sorry can u say that again or please write it down"?. I did that before. I don't need conversation, I just went for dancing with friends.

The nightclub has really really really loud music. Not just only HOH, some hearie people can't hear it either just the same at the concert.
