With all the controversy over films not casting deaf actors to play deaf roles, I am wondering why a film that embraces deaf actors is not being supported.

Is it because the director is hearing??
If films like these cannot be made the problem won't go away. Would love to know your thoughts.

Maybe because the controversy is about major big budget pictures not casting deaf in deaf roles.

There are plenty of ASL films that have al deaf casts.

But interesting way to try to promote yourself.

Ahh!

What about a mix of deaf and hearing and different langauges? Seems like if you don't support the lil guy, you shouldn't expect the big guy/big budget arena to care. The big guy was a lil guy at some point and they remember the journey.

In either care, any insight is helpful. Thanks!

Are you Deaf or Hearing? How are you connected to the Deaf community or culture? It seems you claim to have connections with people already in the Deaf theatrical community. Why aren't they promoting your project for you?
BTW SLPD? that's just lame IMHO, of course. I think you are making a crucial error. You are trying to make a film where the focus is on the person's Deafness. Instead you should make a film that focuses on the character's struggle to find her biological family. It just so happens the character is also Deaf. This is why Switched at Birth and many of the ASL Films productions work so well. The focus is on the characters, not their deafness. The challenges added by being Deaf just add a deeper level to the story and make it more interesting.

Are there ASL films with v-e-r-y b-a-s-i-c language?

I am in ASL I. Plan to follow up with ASL II, but my ability to apprehend the signs is going to need lots of practice, at my very raw learning level I am figuring on using YouTube to loo for children's videos in Sign.

One thing I did when I started learning was finding videos on YouTube another was I found some children's books and stories that were narrated in ASL. It helped me understanding since I already knew the stories and had an idea of the signs....
