Taking a break from all the political stuff and scary jellyfish... ;)

Last night I had the privilege of seeing my very first shooting star! I didn't even know the Geminid meteor shower was on last night. I just happened to be backing my car and looked at the right place at the right time, and saw this fiery streak in the clear sky. I'm amazed I saw it considering I'm near a city, but that was truly amazing!

I was blessed to get to see a wonder like that right at the right time...I read later that most of the meteors were actually in a different part of the sky than that one.

So anyone else do some sky-watching last night?

AHA,. that was what I SAW!

I could have SWORN I saw a shooting star over Poway which is not exactly a dak and secluded city so I was surprised I saw that with all the city lights but it got me wondering-- "that one must be really bright or really close if I could see it..."

And THERE YOU GO. a Meteor SHOWER. I remembered reading it in my local newspaper and it did mention that there may not much of a hope to spot a shower since it was a full moon also.

Driving through the valley in California at nighttime will guarantee you to see some wonderful star gazing! Every time I go north (to Big Sur, Mammoth, somewhere that definitely will put me through that valley right smack in middle of the state), I will pull over and lay atop my car's hood and stargaze. You will see dozens of shooting stars ... and then you will run out of wishes to wish! "Uh, I wish I am not cold anymore..."

It is easy to spot shooting stars in "faraway" places where there are no citylights to blind you. ;)

I haven't seen THAT meteour shower, but...I saw a good sized meteor shower few years ago...we drove up to the Cascade mountain range east of Seattle and watched the meteors fly by very fast and it was pretty bright with a trail of smoke. It was COLD outside, it was around 32 degrees outside during November that time.

I seen them many times. Nice to watch while doing mushy stuff with your date.

I was up at 4am this morning and saw something out
of the corner of my eye. I guess that explains it

^^You should go hiking up in the Cascades, it's a beautiful mountain range also you should go hiking on Olympic Mountains west of Seattle, too! :D

Dang! Missed it - :( My man and I missed the meteor shower, *sighs* Oh well. I've been learning basic star gazing and astronomy through him, he's been teaching me quite a lot, ha. I love it! :D

Here's a site that will help you find the dates of other meteor showers, and where you're likely to find them in the sky. Personally, I'd suggest trying for the stuff that says "Major activity" and "beginner level". I only say that because I have very little expertise. If you're better at it, then there are other meteor showers, too.
