Who is first deaf-blind child to be educated?

When you think about the first deaf-blind child to be educated, you will most likely think of Helen Keller. But Laura Bridgman was the first deaf-blind person to learn language. She had taught the manual alphabet to Sullivan which she used to educate Helen Keller. Laura Bridgman should be famous deaf-blind woman. Not Helen Keller.

Thanks for the link. I'm glad to learn about Laura Bridgman. (I'm still glad to know about Helen Keller though - I think there's room for both in history.) It's always hard (maybe impossible) to know who the first person was to do certain things. You never know who might have done something in obscurity in the past.

And we already know that Laura Bridgman was not the first deaf-blind person to learn language. Your article mentions Dr Howe, the man who taught Bridgman. It says he previously met Julia Brace who communicated using tactile sign, and he wanted to use that method to teach Bridgman how to read and write. If you count knowing tactile sign as having learned language, Julia was earlier. And who knows about others like her?
