I’m a student and I’m currently writing my thesis.
My thesis is about stimulating hearing children in daycare to sign.
I’ve chosen for this topic because there are deaf children in daycare and they don’t play with the hearing children. I don’t want the hearing children to sign perfect, but just a few words.
I want to work on the inclusion of the deaf children and I want them to feel happy and save in daycare. Because I want the children to feel safe, I want to integrate the Deaf culture into the daycare. Integrating this will make the other children sign faster.
I’m playing games with the children. The games are about signing.
I’m telling stories while signing.
I’m making posters with signs on it.
There are pictograms with signs on it. For example, in the kitchen there are pictograms of the eating and drinking sign, …
There is also a television in daycare. Everyone can see these. Also the parents. I want to play videos of children signing on there and videos of songs with sign language.
In daycare there are people who are able to sign with the deaf children. We’re signing while working. These people also have name signs given by the deaf children or their parents. I’m also going to put pictures up of the name signs.
I was wondering if you have any more tips for me.
