a person in uniform isn't the only person who takes risks and makes great sacrifices... there are many people in many walks of life who could fit that.

Two of my heroes are friends of mine.  One is a full blooded Native American woman.  She has been through a LOT in her life- quite a bit of adverse events etc...yet she still manages to stay strong and cares for 5 kids- 3 of whom returned to her after their father- her ex died in a house fire.   The other is someone I met online 10 years ago- that person has dealt with many challenged (most recent being a broken leg/ankle and an ass of a doctor who screwed up the first surgery- that on top of having no insurance at the time.

I know that the first friend mentioned above considers me a 'hero' in her eyes (or admires me at least) for reasons I don't wish to divulge.

People have different definitions of what comprises a hero.  To me- it includes military...social service personnel (Social Worker etc), police, fire, nurses/doctors...and your every day person faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges but still will fight back.
