I grew up with a profound/severe hearing loss. I really struggled, but was kept away from the Deaf community. I wanted nothing to do with my hearing loss, until my son was also born with a similarly progressive hearing loss. I have since embraced this previously unknown part of myself and am ready to learn ASL. I've taken a year of Family Signs via Skype from the Texas School for the Deaf, but it's not ideal. I really need a classroom environment and people to practice with. Now that my son will be starting kindergarten (in the regional day school), I'd like to take proper ASL classes.

What do you guys think of Collin College vs Dallas County Community College's ASL program?

I'm not familiar with those schools but for starters, I would ask what curriculum they each use (truly ASL, not "signing"), and who they have for instructors (Deaf, hearing, hearing-CODA). Also, ask if it is a voice-off class (that is preferable). Also, ask how many levels do they offer.

Try Collin College or Richland College. I'd definitely recommend Tarrant college. Heard it is supposed to be best unless you're willing to drive that long commute. :/

A professor at Collin College is Deaf, and teaches the classes for a while. Thought you'd want to know.

Former student here at Collin College. It was excellent ASL program in late 90s. However, I haven't hear what's lately.
