Reading this article, the thing that really pisses me off is that Pharmaceutical companies get away with killing so many patients with their off label products that's not been FDA approved for the masses.

When caught, these companies pays billions of dollars in fines that is considered chicken feed and not a one individual that is responsible for the killing of patients whom has gotten these medications prescribed by doctors (who were paid by the Pharmaceutical companies to push their pills) and filled at your local pharmacist who's company is also paid by the same said Pharmaceutical company to fill the scripts so the patients go home and take these pills that eventually kills them and they are DOA by the time the EMTs gets to them.

And no one does jail time for the loss of a patient's life. Not one. Not the Pharmaceutical company, not the CEO that runs the company, not the salesperson who recruited and paid doctors to push their pills (and certainly not the doctor that gets any jail time either) and certainly not the Pharmacy who fills the scripts that gets any jail time.

The only people that goes to prison for life is the families that lost their loved ones because some drug peddler who pushed a non-FDA approved pill that killed them. Families who are imprisoned inside themselves to mourn for someone they loved that will never come back.

All because profits came before life. Like $500 for thirty 200mg Seroquels, for example.

It's not the Health Care industry that is the problem, it's the Pharmaceutical Companies that is the problem. Because of their driving cost over one single pill, everything goes up to stay ahead. The Pharmaceutical companies is the driving force that causes the costs of the Health Care to skyrocket.

Aim at the Pharmaceutical companies and the rest will follow, driving back down the costs of Health Care and all of our problems will be solved.

Know what's even more sadder? Drug dealers who pushes street drugs, when caught, end up in prison for 20 to 60 years and not one CEO who do the same thing ever face jail time.

IMHO,

It is illegal for Pharmaceutical companies to pay doctors and pharmacists to prescribe medications.

Who pays $500 for a prescription of 30 Seroquels? Unless they are buying it on the street.

Do you know how much it costs, from research until the time it hits the market, to produce a new medication?

Pharas cannot scribe medications, it's the doctors. Show me a Federal Law that doctors are not allowed to be paid to peddle their drugs?

Of course research, marketing and production costs millions, but the return investment consists of billions in profits from one single brand alone all around the world.

Some of my wife's medication, paid for by Medicare/Medicaid costs over $132 dollars for approx 40-50 pills or less, depending on the brand and generic type. My co=pay runs at $1.32 per bottle.

Pharmas are ripping off Medicare and Medicaid. Just the same that manufacturers are ripping off the military by selling a $8k hammer and a $1k toilet seat.

Ripping off the Government at the expense of tax payer's money is big business.

In Canada, it's illegal to advertise prescription drugs on the TV.

I wish we still have that law. it's ridiculous.... "Ask your doctor about -----" ?????????????????????????????

Why should I ask my doctor about it? He/she should be telling me about it.

lol they're too smart for that. there are other ways - incentive. discount. back-door deal. :cool2:

insurance. rich people. whoever. My previous medication - Provigil which I don't take anymore. It was incredibly expensive. If I recall correctly... it was about $300? for 30 pills. There is no generic version or any other competitor version because the pharmaceutical company either squashed them out or bought them out.

nothing comparable to profits they reap in..... and they spend tons of money on advertising their new drug (and legal department)..... They spend money like it's a hobby. I know... I used to worked for advertisement department there.

Have you considered that it's because Obama would like to try to work with them in reducing the cost of pharmaceutical medication?

Have you considered that Pharma would've been the first to object to this?

the White House confirmed it has promised Big Pharma that any healthcare legislation will bar the government from using its huge purchasing power to negotiate lower drug prices.

That's why it's illegal in Canada. Doctors should be the one telling you, not the TV commercials.

You'd think?
BBC News - Obama healthcare reforms may pay off for drug firms

Pharmas have huge lobbying power and Congress members wouldn't be able to ignore them.

I think it would be better if you actually tell me your opinion along with some statements from the link you provided instead of coming up with some misleading "fear" line. nowhere in the article even support your concern. This "Intellectual Dishonesty" game is getting tiresome.

Why this reform may pay off for drug firms?
"It could potentially add an additional 32 million lives with prescription drug coverage although some of this benefit will likely be offset by lower pricing," he says.

The generous assessment of the impact of the reforms for drugs companies stems from the fact that they do not include the so-called public option, which would have involved the provision of public sector insurance.

Had this been included, the expectation was that pharmaceutical profits would have been heavily reduced over time, as the government became the major buyer of prescription drugs, forcing reduced prices.

In its current form, the bill ensures that the US government will not be the major buyer in the pharmaceutical market.

an interesting point -
A difference between German and US healthcare is that both diagnose the same number of illnesses per capita of population, but German doctors only use a fraction of the diagnostic tests to reach their conclusions.

The investment banker said that this was due to American doctors being terrified of being sued if they made a mistake. Without tort, or law reform, he said, US healthcare costs would continue to remain high.

I bet tv producers would oppose it because they need $$$$$$$ from drug companies for advertisement to produce the new tv shows.

Remember about the uproar with buying cheap drugs from Pharmas in Canada? Then the US Pharamas gets in an uproar about it, calls up Congress and bitched about it. Then Congress once had a bill up for vote to ban purchasing drugs from Canada, but for some reason it died.

Maybe it had to do with the Elderlies calling up Congress threatening to vote them out of office if they voted for the bill? Don't screw with Grandma and Grandpa, they will fark you up. LMAO :p
