And did you have to stay overnight. While I am waiting on the date of the surgery and I have to stay overnight after the surgery to make sure I am ok then the next day I go home.
Tell us your experiences!
Hope you get your surgery date soon.
My CI story is we had to get up at the awful hr of 4 am to get arrive at the hospital by 530. I was actually the 1st surgery he did that day and was in the OR by shortly after 8. surgery went fine I guess, I do not remember anything from the time they put the mask over my face until I arrived back at my room at ???. (I think it was like 1 pm but who knows
could have been 11, I've never asked my hubby to clarify LOL perhaps I should) I then fell asleep after getting in the bed and didn't wake until about3. Hubby went and got something to eat while i was in dream land.
We left after I used the restroom. They have this thing about body funtions working before allowing you to leave.
That night I tried sleeping lying down, gave up and used the recliner, where I slept for the next few days. I did use the pain pills or tylenol for amost a week, since a couple places on my skull would decide to start letting me know they weren't to happy about the surgery.
It wasn't a bad pain, but why be uncomfy when you don't need to be.
The bandage was removed the day after surgery. I went back in one week after surgery and was activated and saw my ENT. Then back the following day to have 3 maps put in the processor to decide which htz works best for me.
note to those of you who are hearing or were hearing.....I actually had a problem with the programming because my idea of loud but comforable was based on the actual sound. Truthfully they could have gone even louder since when i made her stop it still didn't sound that loud.
I went back 3 weeks later and told her that I couldn't use the thing in the wind, near anything that make a fairly loud noise etc. The noise itself wasn't so much the problem it was the reaction that it caused, a swirl of noise....the higher pitches would set off a sound like a siren, the lower ones would set of a whoo whoo whoo type ofthing. So if you are familiar with sounds be careful about going with loudness, but make sure you stop and lower it if you can feel the sound!! (and no it doesn't hurt it's just kinda like a bzzt type of thing, that's actually what I felt when it was connected to my head the first time, bzzzt.....static shocks are much much worse, lol)
But even with all that extra sound the clarity of spoken words was much better then what I was getting through my HA. Oh I also use a HA in my unimplanted ear. (at this time, sounds like it may become useless eventually) Any tips on how to get better mappings would be great from those who've already been doing them for some time and been successful
