i like to know what is the difference between teacher at high school and professor at university?

I remember when I was junior or senior year at high school, I am sure many of my teachers already give me reputation who am I which I was involved cheerleader, academic bowl, key club, advanced placement, etc. Once I am think about applying to ivy league schools such as Dartmouth, Princeton, Columbia, Yale, etc. Few of my teachers think wonder why I am going there over Gallaudet, since I got straight 4.0 gpa and almost perfect score on ACT, and take tought classes. I was told I have friends who are gone to Purdue, from ISD, few gone to Vanderbilt, there is none of difference things. My teachers are more personalities too much and discuss with me what they would do for me. I applied several ivy league schools and other universities. I got accepted from few ivy league schools, I told my dad that I would think about going to Yale University. He think I was not ready go to Yale University because I was not enough mature and responsbility, but huh, is thing discriminate me as being deaf, he told me about i need understand how it may difference from living here and living at yale, teacher is not similar way to professor would put me tough time which is very netural for my problem. He suggested me go to Gallaudet University and got more experienced with people such as professors who is friendly to deaf people and more understand of these enivornment and communication. After BA degree, I would had better understand how to be professional and communicate with people out of world, If I dont, they wont help me to find better job at anywhere. Then I can go law school in somewhere if I do better. He told me about it is not easy to know what the difference between teacher at hs and professor who got PHD or full time at university.

A high school teacher is versed in educational methodology.

A college professor should be an expert in his area of expertise.

and that's only scratching the surface, like college is the factory for conformity whereas college/university is a slugfest to get the licence for that mealticket in the big world, it doesnt matter what you think and you can still be awarded the honor, even if you hated or do not follow things "Normal".

The difference would be a couple of degrees and about 8 years of education.

Nat84, it sounds to me like your dad isn't letting you reach as high as you want. If you want to go to Gallaudet and get a Deaf education, that is great. And if you want to go to Yale, go to Yale. The professors have to accommodate you by law. Some of them might not be the nicest about it, but you will find plenty of unaccommodating people the second you step off Gallaudet campus in D.C. (I live in D.C.) You're going to run across audist people no matter where you go. If not now, then the second you step into the professional world. Plus, most of your professors will probably be very accommodating. Worst case scenario, you go to the disabilities center and state your case. Then if not your professors, the office will accommodate you, since that is their job.
